Dark brown appearance with little transparency. Small tan head; modest lacing. Toasted malt aroma overlapped with hazelnut and caramel. Moderately sweet taste of caramel malts and toffee. Tasted on 8/9/12 from a capped 12oz bottle purchased at Bruisin’ Ales. Pours deep amber with an average tan head that slowly recedes to average lace that sticks to the inside of the glass a bit. The nose is classic dunkel with dark bread, dark chocolate, along with some clove and banana. The flavor is the same, with a bunch of dry bread and dark chocolate malt, and the same banana and clove yeast note, with some nice bitterness on the finish. Pours very dark with minimal head. I get effectively no smell off this one. It’s lighter than you’d expect for the color of the beer, and makes it very drinkable, especially on a hot day. Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Hints of caramel and malt on the nose. Thin mouthfeel. Slight smokiness on the tongue with some maltiness. Clean finisher. Very nice.

12 oz. Bottle. 300th rating for me! On vacation to Cedar Island, NC, I learned about Mother Earth Brewing. This is a solid Dunkel. Dark malt scent, hint of coffee, roasty. Dark brown/black pour with a frothy bubbly tan head. Medium bodied, creamy smooth texture. Bottle. Kind of a plum colored reddish brown with a small white head. Nose is lightly creamy, malts, dark fruits, yeast. Pretty nice flavor, similarly malty, quite dextrinous. Originally reviewed: 4/6/10. So glad these guys are available here in the Triad now! Poured this into a standard pint glass. Pours a deep dark brown with a thin tan head on top. Retention was pretty weak and it left little-to-no lace on the glass. Scents of molasses, dark breads, toffee, and some licorice.
This beer is fairly full-bodied with a good carbonation backing. Sweet flavors of bittering dark chocolate, toffee, molasses, and a good mealy finish. Bitterness is very low on this one. This is all malts and I like it. Very good beer. I’d get a sixer of this and enjoy it immensely.
