COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Steeped in a long history dating back hundreds of years, this "old-fashioned" beer is again in vogue. Lager is the German word meaning "to store," so this beer ages three times longer than our ales do. "Dunkel" means dark in German, but don’t let the color fool you, it is by no means heavy, overbearing, or bitter. In fact, it proves to be a very drinkable session beer.

Very drinkable lightly roasted beer. Pours black with reddish tint and without much head or lacing. Light bitter finish. Grainy and good for style. Tap at rustico ballston

12 oz bottle. Clear dark brown with clingy beige foam. Nose is lagery with citrus pith and a hint of caramel. Taste about the same. Medium light with lively carb. Good for a lager with BBQ. I had a few.

Roser (44) - Virginia, USA - JUL 18, 2014
Appearance- medium to dark (root beer) brown. Nice tan head. Light to moderate dissipation with some lacing, but nothing noteworthy. Smell- clean. Roasted coffee. Caramel and malt. Mineral quality (similar to an oyster stout). Taste- burnt coffee, cocoa, Mouthfeel- light body. Not too much carbonation. Bitter up front. Very crisp. Overall- good. Would recommend and have again. A solid American version of a classic German style. Cheers!

A great Dunkel from a local brewery. Would try anything from this brewery due to their success.

Bottle from grocery store, brown pour, malty, bland nose, a little hoppy, decent dunkel.

nimbleprop (8297) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - MAY 8, 2014
Sampled at D’vine’s in Columbia Heights from a 12oz bottle. Watery cola brown with some thick, creamy, off white head. Nose is standard, some malt, some clove, some nuts, a little over ripened fruit. Flavors are the same, sweet, mild fruit, mild malt. Watery finish.

kevinator (2176) - The Colony, Texas, USA - APR 11, 2014
Decent beer. Faint dark malt aroma. A little earthy. Bread crust brown color with a decent head. Average to thin palate with good carbonation. Not a heavy beer but coated the tongue well with flavor. Some roasted and biscuit flavors with a malt bite at the end. Not much of a hops presence, which wasn’t expected. Just OK.

rbrazell (1698) - Florida, USA - APR 8, 2014
Draft at SGD. Deep mahogany pour with a bubbly white head. Faint malt aroma of toast and pecans. Flavor is similar and light with a mild nutty bitterness at the end. Meh, kind of boring.

Appearance: medium cola brown with a short, creamy, light beige head and average lacing. Aroma: light molasses, brown sugar, toasted nuts, mellow earth hops. Taste: as the aroma indicates. Finish: clean and smooth, with lingering balanced flavors slowly fading. Notes: Quite a nice example of the style, with a very drinkable palate.
