COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Strap yourself in, this is ride is about to get interesting!!! Freight Train Double I.P.A. is a strong, intensely hoppy version of a traditional I.P.A. This brew has a full body and heavy malt backbone that supports the strong hop character and provides a great balance.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 11/15/2016. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/light copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/pine hops and dark/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon/orange rind, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/pine hops and dark/bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance. Light-moderate dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Some light lingering hop astringency near the end of the glass, but not overwhelming. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and sticky/resin/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with a mild warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very good malty DIPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/pine hops and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, despite the increasing bitter/drying lingering resinous finish. Nicely juicy on hops with an ample malt backbone; but never overly sweet. A very enjoyable offering.

tap - Deep copper pour, off-white head, and a nice citrus aroma. It has a big, malt heavy taste along with ample hops bitterness with some earthy and citrus tones. It’s not as bitter as many IIPAs but it’s still very good. It just doesn’t have the complexity of some higher rated IIPAs.

Bottle. Cloudy reddish orange pour with a small head. Aroma is faint for a DIPA. Mandarin orange, wet grass, and caramel. Tastes kinda stale but I know the bottle is pretty fresh. Light sweetness and light bitterness. Candied citrus and caramel mostly with light pine and grass. Medium body. Meh.

Very drinkable DIPA. Not the style so much in terms of aggressive hop bite, but still a good citrus hoppy taste. Fresh bottle from Champane’s.

Pours a cloudy copper with a minimal head. Big taste in this one, great taste but not less filling. Hops linger for a while after a sip. No real alcohol present. Overall a good job with this, I will get it again.

Slightly cloudy amber color. Nothing special or worth buying again. Screw on cap was old school.

esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 25, 2013
Cloudy amber with a medium white topper. Aroma of thick malts, toffee, caramel and citrus. Taste is super sweet with citrus, brown sugar and toffee and a mild bitter finish for the style.

12oz bottle, can’t recall too many other double ipa’s I’ve had with twist off caps. Good looking beer, hazy amber with an off-white head. Aroma is primarily citrusy. Taste is strong malt, citrus and earthy with lasting bitterness. A heavy beer, but pretty decent overall.

Pour is an orange/amber with little head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is a clean hoppy smell but seems quite weak to me. Taste goes along with the aroma and I agree with the other raters, the flavor is lacking complexity and flavor. It could be a lot better. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
