We first brewed this to commemorate our 10th birthday in Oct’ 07, so, now that we’re 11 and a quarter years old, we’d thought we’d bring it back. The idea was to make a Hightail, but with the volume turned up. A more intense Hightail experience. It’s rich, full and malty. There’s strong but balanced bitterness and it comes in at 6.8% alc/vol.

Bottle from BevMo, Arden. Pours dark brown with an attractive tan head and a toffee and treacle aroma. There is a hearty treacle flavor with some plum and a hint of chocolate that stays on the palate.

650ml bottle. Another in the Mountain Goat Rare Breed Series. Looks robust when poured with a burnt copper colour and a large crown of sandy coloured foam, Fruity hop notes with a caramel malt backdrop. Smooth and velvety in the mouth and the 7.2% alc/vol is hidden well in the toffee flavours that come through. Intense flavour hit that really penetrates the whole mouth. Very easy to drink and quite clean with a long lasting finish. A really good drop and I would recommend that you hightail it to the bottleshop and track one down. This 650ml bottle was bought at Era Wine Store in West End, Brisbane.

Bottle, label says 7.2% ABV. Cloudy copper with a large light beige head. Lots of tiny bubbles. Powerful aroma of grapefruit, flowers, ripe nectarines, pine, toffee, earth. Somewhat syrupy mouthfeel. Lots of rich toffee overshadows the pears, dried fruit and nectarines and is followed by piney bitterness. Its quite bitter, but not so much so as to quite dry out the finish. Theres a bit of alcohol burn there too. Second sedimenty pour softened the plain richness of the toffee a bit. Given what I like about normal Hightail is the lightness and liveliness of the texture I was a bit surprised how much I liked this.

Pours a deep burnt copper colour with a small off white head. Quickly dissapears and leaves some very good lacing. Nice nose on it. A mix of floral hops, grapefruit, and a nice roasted caramel malt backdrop. Has a good mouthfeel. Floral hops with a big toffee flavour throughout. Has a fairly nice malt backbone. Pretty decent overrall, although when I have an outstanding beer i usually have a feeling of completion and this doesnt quite do it for me. Was still fairly happy with it considering their hightail is pretty average

Was hoping to try this at the brewery after the brewery tour but they didnt have it so popped back to the Taphouse to try it. Amber body with a creamy head. Malty aroma, hints of raisins and alcohol in the taste but a little chewy. Thought this was good.

Pours dark amber with an off-white small head. Nose shows lots of peach and passionfruit hops along with more tropical fruit. Underneath is rich caramel malt. Similar flavours but more malty, with a little alcohol showing and a soft bitterness. Carbonation is a little high.

Not bad. Kind of a Belgian/English strong hybrid. Caramel and Stone Fruit nose. Has the ester and fruitiness of a Belgian, with the slight toffee and caramel backbone of an English ale. Fruitier than expected, with good use of the Galaxy hop. Good effort from a solid brewery.

Bottled. Pours a clear, deep amber, beihe head. The aroma is fairly focused on malt, lots of caramel, fudge, lightly roasted, marzipan, almonds, strawberries (!). Dry, medium body and bitterness. Malty taste, caramel, yeast, hops, marzipan, nuts. Feels like a lighter Barley Wine type of thing. (2012-02-28)

Very strong. Barleywine aspects to it. Malt forward with a medium amount of bitterness to it.
