This is a Hop Driven, Malty Ale with a strong bitterness thanks to a good dose of Citra and Galaxy hops. Its a tough nut, but loveable all the same.

Those of you that loiter in bottleshops in your spare time will probably have noticed that our Rare Breed IPA is no longer a Rare Breed. She’s become an all-grown-up fully-fledged member of the permanent range. …And like the doting parents we are, we’re super proud of her. She still has the same big tropical hop aroma – we dry-hop using Galaxy (Tas), Citra (USA) and Motueka (NZ), and full malty body (Ale malt, Wheat and Crystal malts). Specs are: 6.2% abv, 65 BU…one for hopheads and beer nerds everywhere.

Lurks on the red side of amber (which I love). An off-white head sits on top with a touch of sparkle. The aroma suggests plentiful dry-hopping: arms loads of spruce and amber resin, red bark and some orange apple flavours (like Cox’s - which I just can’t help but imagine whenever Motueka hops are involved). There is plentiful mouthfeel and just lush amber malt, spruce and resinous bitterness characters all over. This is everything that IPA hounds love about a new world IPA. It is forthright and full of brash character. It is brassy and endearing and happily invites you for seconds. Big like from me.

Sample @ CBC’13.
Pours clear golden-copper color with a small head. Aroma of mild cardboard, faint hops and fruits. Flavour of citrus fruits, hoppy notes, grass and cardboard. Not at its prime anymore.

Draught @ CBC 2013

Pours dark orange with a smooth white head. Aroma of caramely malts, sweet notes, some grassy hops. Taste is sweet and sticky with some malty notes, caramel and fruits. Finish is sweetish and sticky with some malty and hoppy notes. Doesn’t feel very fresh.

Draught @ CBC2013. Pours a dark copper colour with a white foamy head. Aroma of grassy hops, gooseberries and floral notes. Flavour of grainy malts, gooseberries, citrus and floral notes. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel and high carbonation. Doesn’t feel fresh.

Very malty, with a medium bitterness which seems to settle into the backseat after a while and let the malt sweetness do the talking. Good easy drinking.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2013 god damn good ale! stoked to have this brewery in my neighbourhood. truly a world class IPA. Malt rich, big hops in balance

Dry hopped finish which leaves a bitterness in the palate. More malt driven than hop driven though which is why my overall score was a bit on the low side.

330ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy medium amber, with a small off-white head, which does not last all that well but does leave reasonable lacing. There really isn’t a whole lot going on in the aroma, just some faint floral hops and toffee malt. Floral and grassy hops up front lead into a smooth body of toffee malt and candied fruit, which continues into the finish. This really doesn’t have enough hops to be considered an IPA; I would probably call it a sweet ESB if anything. For an IPA it is quite disappointing.

Good nose. Maybe the maltiest IPA I've had. Starts off sweet and stays with you. Nice malty twist on an IPA ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours an amber colour wth an off-white head. Aroma is malt, fruit, citrus, caramel and hops. Taste is medium sweet of fruit and caramel leading to a moderate bitter finish. Decent.
