This is a Hop Driven, Malty Ale with a strong bitterness thanks to a good dose of Citra and Galaxy hops. Its a tough nut, but loveable all the same.

Those of you that loiter in bottleshops in your spare time will probably have noticed that our Rare Breed IPA is no longer a Rare Breed. She’s become an all-grown-up fully-fledged member of the permanent range. …And like the doting parents we are, we’re super proud of her. She still has the same big tropical hop aroma – we dry-hop using Galaxy (Tas), Citra (USA) and Motueka (NZ), and full malty body (Ale malt, Wheat and Crystal malts). Specs are: 6.2% abv, 65 BU…one for hopheads and beer nerds everywhere.

Good nose. Maybe the maltiest IPA I've had. Starts off sweet and stays with you. Nice malty twist on an IPA ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Clear amber beer with a large white head. Aroma is malty with notes of red berries, citrus, mango and caramel. Flavor is malty with notes of caramel, roasted malt, red berries and bread. More of a red ale. Old sample?

Lagerboy (2239) - British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 9, 2015
330 ml bottle. Clear medium copper, off-white foam mostly lasts. Aroma of fruity hop, orabge citrus, caramel malt. Lightly bitter herbal fruity citric hop taste, slightly sweet c-malt. Average carbonation, lighter-medium bodied, moderately hopped. Clean and easy. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Bottle from a friend and unfortunantly forgotten in the beerceller. Sampled 150102 best before 130430, and this beer has cascade and galaxy hop, not the new hop blend. Fruity and american hop aroma. Mild caramell malt with a Smooth bitterness. Balanced body and still very enoyable.

Lonely and forgotten in the back of the bar fridge I can safely call this a vintage rather than a fresh bottled batch so a re-rating to follow.
Deep, tawny copper with minutes, streaming carbonation and a tidy, sloppy off-white crown. Plummy, plump savoury fruit on the nose with toffee notes from the Crystal. Quite weedy, bitter and herbal on the palate with chewy, biscuity malts and a nutty, roasted malt back-drop. Esters of plums dwell long after each sip. Moderate body with soft carbonation. Not bad considering its age. Worthy of another try. (33cL, BB 27/09/13)

Keg at brewery tap in Richmond, Melbourne. Deep golden with a medium-sized white head. Biscuity malts with a decent piney and fruity dry hop bitterness that does not overpower. Smooth medium-bodied palate. Enjoyable IPA.

Pours a dark orange with a medium head and plenty of lacing. It has a sweet malty caramel aroma with a subtle fruity scent, particularly melon. Taste is similar. A bit too well balanced for an IPA with not much of a hop bitterness finish. Still enjoyed this though. Could see it as a good intro beer for the non craft beer drinker.

Aroma: citrus fruits and light floral hops. Appearance: clear amber, small, creamy, white head. Taste: light bitter and sweet. Palate: sweets intensify, flowers, fruits, then bitters coming up, dry finish. Overall: nice IPA, great aroma. Pint at The Globe, Hong Kong.

GoufCustom (2172) - HONG KONG - NOV 28, 2014

330 ml bottle bought at foodGARDEN in D2 Place, Lai Chi Kok.

Looks: Clear amber red with no yeast sedimentsOne-quarter finger head and light beige foam which fades in 10 seconds; Good sticky lacing with slight carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant and quite sweet Ale malt, with strong passion fruits, light mango, light papaya, assorted tropical fruits, strong lemon and lime, grapefruit, honey, light pine, light yeast and grass.

Taste: Light sweet light Ale malt, with light roast, grapefruit, lemon zest, fairly light pine, hint of toffee, lime, strong bitter hops and grass.

Body: Mid to light body, dry and slightly slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Quite dry wheatyness. Thin with good light Ale malt backbone, quite roasty as well. Dominated by Galaxy with strong bitter hops which somehow blanket the grapefruits, but lemony lime zests are prevalent. Not much pine nor sweetness, very clean and fruit-hoppy. Good!...

Hoppiness: Quite strong passion fruits, tropical fruits, lemon and light pine in nose. Lemon zest , strong lime and grapefruit in taste. Bitterness is flat-out strong but without much dimension, not sophisticated but lasting for a strong bitter finish.

After Taste: Quite dry, very limey and bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one is all Galaxy - it has pretty good citrus and tropical fruits in aromas, but the hoppiness somehow lack dimension to be truly impressive, plus the malt is wheat-thinned, which makes the beer too clean and thin for an IPA. It’s surgical and quite likeable, but it lacks the necessary depth to impress.

Draught pint at the Roundhouse, Peel Street, Hong Kong. Amber colour with a small white head. Slightly cloudy. Aroma of hops, pine and citrus. Bitter taste of grapefruit, citrus, malt and hops. Strong bitter finish. A very enjoyable IPA.
