COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
On our 18th year in existence, we were acquired by Japanese brewer, Asahi. This beer is a reflection of that –one of our favourite styles to brew (US IPA) with a Japanese twist (Sorachi Ace hops). It’s got something for everyone (as long as you like hoppy, bitter IPAs).
Hops – dry-hopped with Chinook, Simcoe & Columbus. Then with a Japanese twist of Sorachi Ace hops dry-hopped late in the fermention.
Malts: Ale, Vienna, Redback & Gladiator

Bottle from Beer Cartel 160916. Part of Mountain Goat’s Rare Breed Limited release series. This is an old school IPA with plenty of flavour. A good well balanced combination of maltiness and hoppiness. Copper in colour with red flecks scattered throughout with a thick deep head of sticky foam. Mixture of pine, citrus, caramel and vanilla in the mouth with a long dry finish. Full bodied in the mouth, this is one of the best IPA’sthat I have had in a while and one of the best Mountain Goat beers in a while as well.

640mL bottle from Dan Murphys. BB 21/12/16 Hazy copper body, small white foam 3 Citrusy hop upfront on nose - mandarin, grapefruit, pine needle & sap, some ripe melon in there with a biscuity, caramel malt undertone. 7 Texture is quite slick, oily, full chewy sort of body, moderate carbonation. 3 Malt kicks up a gear on the body; plenty of sweet biscuit, pale toffee & light brown toast combining with mandarin citrus & a touch of woody hop character. Moderate bitterness (for an IPA), smooth finish. 7 Well tempered IPA, good flavour & balance 15 3.5

Very malt driven with mild caramel and toast. Hops are not noticeable except for bitterness but improve dramatically when it warms up. A good balanced beer when not too cold.

From a bottle. Looks good, not much of a malt aroma, peppery citrus lasting finish.

Bottle (640ml, BB 21/12/16). Dark amber with a firm white head that reduces to a stable film and decent lace. Biscuity malts, some pine resin and orangey citrus on the nose. Palate is quite sweet and malty at first before the resinous/citrus hops take over. Vague hints of a peppery spiciness in there as well. Oily texture, medium body, average carbonation. Sweeter and more malt driven than your classic US-style IPA.

640 ml bottle. Lightly hazy orange body topped by a sloppy white head. Aromas of pine, lemon, pie crust, grapefruit and flowers. Taste is sweet maltiness first, boosted by firm pine and citrus bitterness. Long finish with a peppery citrus aftertaste. Very nice smashable IPA.

Had this on tap. Hazy amber. Big aroma is full of calamansi, wildflower honey and piney hop. Lots of bitterness with mandarin sweet citrus, hint of pommelo, dash of bitter piney hop and some toasty, biscuity malt. Fun IPA.

It’s hazy, amber, with quite a decent clingy head. Aroma is really sweet caramel, lightly roasted walnuts and hops of spruce and spice following through in the flavour with a little bit of citrus zest. Great recipe and brewing and very enjoyable as well.

From a 640ml bottle on 7/2/2016 (shared with Butz. The nose has a some fruit along with a bit of caramel malt. Taste wise, it begins with light caramel malt, followed by sweet citrus and mish mash of hops, featuring a pronounced slightly sour bitterness at the back. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Very solid.

Pours a lovely clear light amber, with fluffy off white head. Nose is classic sorachi bubblegum, lemon, light dill, with orange and some caramel to balance. Flavor has a balanced malt presence, caramel, light toffee, orange, lemon, sharply carbonic, bitter, aromatic citrus finish. Medium body, nothing crazy. Pretty tasty US IPA with a good malt back and an interesting (and one of my favourite) hops. Pretty good.
