This one’s come about after a couple of summers playing around with aromatic, hoppy and sessionable ales like Skipping Girl and Goldilocks. There’s plenty of malted and unmalted wheat in the grist make up, and a big burst of fruity Nelson Sauvin and Motueka hops on the nose. For the tech-heads the numbers are: 20BU, 7EBC, 4.7%ABV. We’re also pretty pumped to have packed it in a 375 ml can, for all your outdoor summer thirst quenching requirements.

375ml can Pale gold with good head. Aroma of sulfury/mercaptans, freshly cut wood, compost and rotting fruit. Slight bitter note. Quite sweet with watermelon and grassy notes. OK.

Can. Unattractive pale yellow with low fizzed out attempt at a head. Lovely aroma however, passion fruit, pineapple, a touch of cat pee, NZ and Oz hops for sure. Tropical fruity flavour, light and lean, low bitterness in feel. Spritzy almost minerally, really easy to down. Like Kirin’s Galaxy Session IPA here but better rounded and doesn’t feel the need to go too hoppy, targets fruity aroma and flavour.

UPDATED: DEC 3, 2017 Pours a cloudy Gold with a slight head that quickly dissipates. Effervescent carbonation and delicate hopping results in s refreshing summer thirst quencher that does the job but quickly fades from memory.

UPDATED: JUL 7, 2017 Appearance/Aroma/Taste/Mouthfeel/Overall: 1/7/5/2/12. Several 375mL cans, part of Dan Murphy’s March monthly specials. Mountain Goat cans are contract brewed. Appearance: Clear pale yellow. Quickly dissipating white head. Almost no lacing. Yellow fizzy lager territory. Aroma: Tropical fruits, green grapes and malt. Inviting. Taste: Sweet, light malt. Restrained lemon/green grape/passionfruit hops. Fresh floral notes. Light bitterness. Dry hay finish. Would be a nice soft drink flavour... Mouthfeel: Slightly thin body. Lots of carbonation in an attempt to make up for everything else. Overall: It was amazing when it was my second ever craft beer (bought because it was in the same vein as S&W Pacific Ale). Now it is terribly basic. A gateway/quenching beer and nothing more. Could be improved by adding another hop and raising the abv.

375 ml can bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Translucent light golden colour with a cloud of fine mist of yeast particles; Half finger head with soapy white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Good sticky lacing with zero carbonation; Fragrant aroma of Ale malt, with strong white grapes, passion fruits, dew melons, wheaty tartness, floral, light spice, dry biscuits, lemon and light grass; Light sweet taste of very light Ale malt, with wheaty dryness, faint grapes, dry biscuits, and faint lemon; Light body. Dry and slick palate; Mouth feel is very light maltyness in a heavily wheat-thinned body, but no tartness. Almost like water, nearly devoid of any malt or hop taste - no floral, no sweetness, no citrus, no grass, just nothing - WTF!... Hoppiness is white grapes, passion fruits, dew melons, floral, spice, lemon and light grass in nose. Very faint grapes and faint lemon in taste; Bitterness is nil for non-astringent wheaty finish; Quite dry after taste, Crisp and watery to mouth.

Comments: Beyond the rather decent NS hop aroma of grapes and melon, it is virtually a beer water with absolutely no taste in malt or hops. This is even worse than the Steam Ale, but I managed to down it all just because I was thirsty. Absolutely poor and steer well clear!

Big bold fruity sweet aroma. Pours cloudy straw with big frothy head quickly dying down to flat. Sweet citrus, melon taste. Refreshing and typical for the style. More sweet than bitter and hops. Really enjoying the summer ale style right now. Great with sun and water. Good value for a summer staple.

floral, citrus, lively, thin feel, medium body, lightly bitter, very sweet taste, heavy cloying sweetness,

The hurt of them being sold to a global giant is tempered by the fact there has not yet been a discernible change to taste. Was on this before the takeover and happy to report the Ale is still refreshing after. Soft floral aromas/taste and not too heavy make this a great session-beer option.
