A-- Poured a dark cola color and settled black with just a couple of ruby hints on the bottom of the glass. Half finger of light brown head. On swirling the glass head stayed at the same height. A few streaks of lacing on the sides of the glass. Just a small bit of carbonation showing.
S-- Some pine and fresh cut grass, mixed in with some grapefruit. not big and aggressive smell but a well mixed smell of the hops.
T-- Chocolate, followed by hints of pine and grapefruit. Not massive by any stretch but very well balanced.
M-- Ripe orange, pine and grapefruit really creep up in this. gets a whole lot larger in the mouth. Starts as chocolate and then a lot of fruit just attack. Very crisp and clean finish with touches of bitter grapefruit and pine. Medium carbonation and medium feel
D-- Well done collaboration. bozoNZ (778) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 7, 2011
Bottle muled to NZ cortesay of the ex Brewer. She’s a Star! Dark, reddy brown with thin lacing head. Balanced nose between the hops and the dark malts. First up in the mouth it the black malts, dark chocolate, char and a touch astringent. The hops / IPA side of the beer kick in then with a lingering almost wet hop finish that lasts for ages. Drunk right on it’s bb expiry and I’m guessing its a more well rounded beer now than when fresh. Really nice. mkel07 (5965) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - AUG 14, 2011
650ml bottle. Still trying to get my head around a beer that looks like a stout but smells and tatses like an IPA. Deep dense black colour with a light tan head. Spicy fruit aromas are pleasing as is the flavour. Full mouthfeel with a long lingering finsih. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 15, 2011
Thanks to Alex for this... Dark brown body, really light on the fringes, light tan head, god retention, creamy... Light nose, but nice, a bit of soap with roast, a bit chocolate... The taste is pretty nice, one of the better black ipas I’ve had, pretty soapy overall but a nice chocolate roast balance this out bluevegie (3073) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 21, 2011
Poured a decent tan head on a black body. Hops on the aroma though not as much in the taste, choclate and coffee notes in there as well, delightful to drink.

Poured from 640ml bottle to tulip glass. Beautiful solid black colour with a decent tran-coloured head. Head reduces fairly quickly but leaves excellent lacing. Aroma is a healthy mix of sweet malt and floral hops. Big complex flavour, from sweet crystal malt through chocolate, then to coffee, bitter roasted malts and a great hoppy resin character. The signature Mountain Goat flavour is evident, this beer is quite like a dark version of their brilliant IPA. Lovely all round in the mouth and across the tongue, texture is just right with the full but not thick body and medium carbonation. Finish is long and dry. Easy and rewarding drinking. I wish it was a permanent fixture of the Mountain Goat range! bluebetty (1021) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 28, 2011
Bottle. Pours super dark brown with nice mahogany flashes down the side of the glass. Snallish light tan coloured head. Very floral citurs aromas. Plenty of citrus and tropical fruit. Light roasted grain and a little nuttiness comes through also. Flavours pretty much as expected. Lots of resiny hop bitterness and a little roasted grain. The nuttiness seems to come through as it warms. Medium mouthfeel. Nice stuff. gam (3930) - brisbane, AUSTRALIA - APR 24, 2011

Excellent dark IPA. Aromas of hoppy citrus and pine over gentle roasted malt. Same in flavour with some coffee there too. Great lengthy bitter finish and a most enjoyable IPA at that. Davros (3181) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 12, 2011
Pours ruby tinted dark brown with a small, lasting head.
Nose shows masses of hops: resinous, earthy, pinapple. Underneath is chocolate and caramel malt. Luscious!
First up in the flavours is chocolate and coffee followed by a huge resinous hoppy hit. Tastes like how freshly picked hops smell! Massively long finish with a strong, bold hoppy bitterness.
Carbonation could be a bit higher honestly.
