On tap @ Vine Street Brewpub. Deep clear copperish brown, with a ligh lacing head. Wine-like sour aromas with some oak and raisins. Taste was pretty earthy and like a smooth sweet wine with a dry finish. Lots of wood and a complex-ish sour flavor. I’d be a bigger fan if it didn’t taste like merlot so much. 3fourths (9351) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUN 16, 2011
fruit, wood, nuts, twig + berries sorta nose (prickly acetobacter/vinegar-like acid) with moderate levels of basement must and dried/moldy dark fruit (plum, cherry, berries, etc.). medium body, frothy carbonation and striking acidity give it a quenching, rounded, lively texture. merlot character is absent but wood is considerable. dark malts are bready, alcohol is unnoticeable and oak/fruit/bacteria character is actually close to that found in some batches of La Roja (dried fruit/crystalline esters with mild balsamic notes). tannic, tart, musty and fruity with low sweetness and medium-low bitterness. surprised to find this one in good shape. came in with low expectations and left surprised. ephemeral8 (69) - denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 12, 2011
