Sample at the brewery. High creamy lasting brown head. Pitch black body. Mild roasted malt choccolate aroma. Alcohol dominated roasted malt flavor with choccolate and acidic notes of grapefruit. High carbonation. Long finish. Kevin (2217) - Montana, USA - FEB 24, 2014
Black body with a grey orang thin head that rings the glass as i drink it. Smells sweet with orange pine aggressive hop nose and just a bit of chocolate. Spilled some on my pants right next to my junk, so many bad dirty jokes i could make...shit ton of hop flavor with citrus, pine, fruity resiny american hops that give wayate3 to roasted coffee and super strong caramel with a chocolate finish. I think the burnt note is from the hops not the malt here. Just so much in there that is destroys the tastebuds. Appearance would get a 5 if served in a half pint glass or snifter. On tap at the Vine Street Pub. Black appearance with a lingering, light brown head. Fresh hoppy aroma of citrus/tropical fruits, pine, roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Similar flavor with a dry feel and a lingering, bitter finish. Pretty nice, kind of like a bigger version of the Trickster Stout. bu11zeye (13239) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - NOV 15, 2013

On tap at Vine Street Pub. Pour is pitch black with a two finger brown head and great lacing. Roasty, sweet, vanilla, oaky, caramelly, candi sugar, and chocolate in the aroma. Big toasted malt, somewhat boozy, sweet caramel, vanilla, a touch of espresso, and grass with a big bitter finish and a long-lasting chocolate aftertaste. Thick/creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Nice! BeerandBlues2 (14018) - Escondido, California, USA - FEB 11, 2013
Tap at Vine Street. Pours opaque with a medium, creamy tan head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is herbal, grapefruit, and pine hops with dark chocolate and roast malt and prune, raisin, and date esters. Flavor is malt forward with heavy hops and medium bitterness, dark fruity esters and a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation. notalush (5955) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - FEB 10, 2013
Tap at Vine Street - now this is an American imperial stout I can get behind - hoppy, of course, but not in an astringent, ipa sort of way - woody qualities meld well with the light roast and mild char of the malt - creamy body - well masked alcohol - very smooth for the abv - finish has complex notes of fig, anise, raisin, chocolate - lingering hop spiciness - I love this beer, and I love stout month! On tap at Southern Sun. Pours a dark brown with minimal light tan head, settles quickly. Aroma is hoppy, piney, citrus, resinous. Smells predominantly hoppy. Flavor is hoppy up front, citrus, resinous. Dry hopping is very apparent. Very little stout character to report sadly, and a good bit hoppier than i remember. Soft carbonation and medium body. Seemed much more like India black ale or india brown ale than a stout. Not bad, just not what I was looking for. Dogbrick (14309) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - OCT 29, 2012
Sample at GABF 10/13/2012, thanks to Bluemeow76 for assistance with note-taking. Jet black pour with a medium thin khaki head and patches of lacing. The aroma consists of malt, dark chocolate and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of chocolate malt, coffee and piney hops. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Good overall.
