Ratman197 (14834) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - APR 18, 2008
On tap @ Boulder Strong Ale Fest poured a clear golden amber with a small lasting white head. Aromas of citrus, honey, some floral notes and light carmel. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of honey, fruittiness, light oak and light spiced with a smooth lingering lightly sweet finish.

sampled on tap at the San Diego Strong Ale Festival Nov 2008, an event shared with what seemed liked hundreds of ratebeerians and enjoyed mostly through a straw, since my face was a bloody mess of scabs and stitches. After drinking a ton of really strong, harsh beers, i was in the mood for something a little differnt. this fit the bill well. light blonda ale with a small head. swet cidery aroma. flavor was fruity with some spice. a nice refreshing beer but not mind-blowing.

SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - DEC 17, 2007
On tap at the brewpub. Cloudy opaque gold with a medium white head. Heavy chalky palate with a big apple and clove flavor. Apple cider and bread dough yeasty aroma. This was strong and potent in ethanol.

goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - NOV 1, 2007
Tap @ Mountain sun: The beer poured a hazy golden color with effervescent bubbles and a medium sized white head. The aroma was of Belgian yeast. Sweet, spicy and estery. Notes of fruit and apple cider. The flavor was fruity and spicy through out. Sweet flavor. Long finish with a medium to full body. Nice warmth.

On tap at the brewpub on 10/14/07: Pours a slightly hazy golden with a wispy-lacing froth of white head. Floral perfumy sweet grape candy-like malty nose has a touch of doughy Belgian yeast. Starts full and malty sweet with nice candi sugar and light fruity complexity balanced with a touch of bittering hops toward a doughy finish. A nice Belgian strong ale.

GABF ’07. Pours hazy yellow with an average, fizzy, off-white head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, hay, straw, meal), average hops (herbs), average yeast (horse blanket, earth) with notes of pear. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

New batch served at the Mountain Sun Pub. Perfectly carbonated with a nice, retaining head. Smooth mouthfeel with a dry finish. Great clove and banana flavors without going over the top. Crisp, no overwhelming alcohol notes, doesn’t burn like typical strong ales. Bartender said it was 9.8% but I could drink this all night. Wonderful belgian experience, balanced and delicious!

drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 7, 2007
sampled on tap at the 5th Boulder Strong Ale Fest. poured a hazy gold, very yeasty stale cereal nose. flavor is also some nasty yeast, orange peel. seems more like a strong belgian wit to me.

Ernest (7695) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 26, 2006
Draught. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of banana, pepper, clove, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Surprisingly nice rendition of a strong Belgian golden ale (could see people thinking of this as a tripel, and it’s almost there). Nice nuances beyond the usual banana-and-clove bomb that many American attempts end up being. Thumbs up.
