on tap at the Brewpub in Boulder on 9/25/09... pours a deep black with a nice tan head... very smooth big body over the palate with big roasted malts and a big nut presence... pretty solid Imp Stout but fairly one dimensional. Have had on many occasions the last 3 years when visiting either Southern or Mountain. Nutty, sweet, and hoppy. My go-to stout every February.

Tap at Vine Street - thick black pour, with a frothy, dark tan lace - March 2009 vintage - slick, thick mouthfeel - intense roast and bitterness reminiscent of coffee - bittersweet chocolate - alcohol warmth, but nothing I would consider heat - chewy, but easy-drinking for the style - a bit of cocoa and continuing warmth through the dry finish - very good. potbeerjob (1343) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 3, 2010
Draught. Black with small brown head. Aroma is fruity - apples, pear, berries - also notes of chocolate and roastedness. Surprisingly hoppy aroma. Taste is sweet and similar to aroma in that fruit is most dominant aspect. Medium bitter finish that lingers. onceblind (10890) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 7, 2011
On tap at Vine Street. Black with a dark brown head. Surprisingly smells of citrus and grassy hops, a bit of soy sauce. Some light cocoa notes too. Hts the tongue with lots of hop bitterness upfront, with some grapefruit and orange. Somewhat like a DIPA with it’s intense hop and intense malt backbone. But this soon mellows into dark chocolate tones with a slight berry touch. Vanilla extract shows up as well. This is like an extra chocolaty black IPA, and I dig it!
