COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of this Classic Stout! It has an alluring malt profile based on domestic 2 row and roasted barley. Flaked barley is added to increase body, sweetness, and head retention. A very meager East Kent Goldings hop addition of was added at the beginning of boil. The hops merely balance this beer rather than providing a significant flavor contribution.

Sampler at the brewpub. Pours a medium beige head, with attractive lacing, over an almost black (SRM 35) body....nose is coffee, light chocolate.........taste is grain, light coffee.....mouth feel light, carbonation low. This fits well within the style, although the roasted malts are a bit unblanced towards coffee over chocolate. BJCP 7/3/12/4/6

Tap @ Vine Street. Rich deep roasty coffee aroma. Pours black, no head, very viscous. Starts off sweet with burnt caramel, some coffee and lots of roasty malts but finishes dry with a little hop bitterness. Medium mouthfeel. One of the better stouts this year.

Nitro tap at Vine st. Black with a creamy light tan tight head with lots of lace. Aroma of chocolaty peat, old linen, and a gentle touch of coffee creamer. Taste was slightly smokey, some peat, a little chocolate, and the taste also had just a dash of sweet creaminess while still remaining pretty dry after all. Not shabby.

Pour on tap is dark brown with white head at Vine St location, aroma has notes of roasted malt, some slight coffee, dark fruit and biscuit notes. Taste is a bit thin, but roasted malt with coffee, chocolate finishes dry and slightly chalky. Decent, but fairly weak overall.

A bit watery, but it suits the style. Drier than a Guinness. Not much carbonation or body, but the roasted malt character is perfect. Tried in August 2010 on my brewery tour of the Front Range. 8/9/2010

Roasted coffee nose. Smooth and roasty taste...a bit of a "smoked meat" note. Deep brown in color.
