Draft at brewery. Body-dark cola with a eighth inch foamy/dense head. Great looking for a porter. Nose-roasty, marshmallows, slightly lactic, lightly scorched, very light cola, low to medium sweetness, smore like, light nut, medium palate, light charred oak. One of the, if not THE, best Porters I have ever had. fro2218 (471) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - SEP 22, 2007
Smells sweet and of roasted malt. Nice mellow character - a very well balanced robust porter. hopdog (12510) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 12, 2006
On tap at the Southern Sun Location. Poured a dark black color with red edges and a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of roast, coffee, and light chocolate. Tastes of roast, chocolate with a bitter coffee finish. Nice bitter finish. jcr (2705) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - SEP 8, 2006
Draft at brewpub. Solid and enjoyable. Black pour with tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. The flavor, too, featured the dark malts, but with a slightly sweet undercurrent and bitter, dry finish that hinted at licorice. Medium body, nice carbonation. harlequinn (2744) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - JUL 13, 2006
Decent porter, I really like the way this beer is put together, with the malt and hop bills matching each other quite well. This has a coffee aroma like a pot that has been sitting too long and has slightly scorched, with just a bit of acrid smokiness, richly textured, with the coffee acidity being the flavors start player, but in the background are some nice bittersweet chocolate notes, and perhaps just a bit of chicory, subdued slightly as well.

On tap @ Southern Sun poured an opaque brownish black with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt and bitter chocolate. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, a hint of coffee and some light smoke with a lingering slightly bitter finish. waolsen (1376) - Littleton, Colorado, USA - MAY 8, 2006
tap. tan head. coffee and chocolate aroma. black pour. chocolate dominates this porter. It was a long day of pub hopping and my ratings became less discript. at this point we were at the end. i enjoyed this beer. tiggmtl (4545) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 2, 2005
Roasty malts are somewhat chalky in the aroma with plenty of chocolate and hickory nuttiness. Opaque brown body with a strong, brown, fine bubbled head that recedes to cover with great lacing. Pleasantly hoppy for a porter but nicely balanced between herbal, leafy and orange floral hops and roasted malts with an underlying chocolatey sweetness. Bitterness is pronounced without overwhelming. Medium body is dry and well attenuated with a creamy texture and soft but lively carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with ClarkVV, Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere. sneagrams3 (2337) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 26, 2005
Tasted 10/1 GABF weekend, at the Mt. Sun pub. Oily black hue, with a clinging tan head. Coffee in the nose along with slight caramel. Bitter chocolate flavor. Rastacouere (6177) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 18, 2005
Deep coke, mounted by a never-dying off-white head. Elegant nuttiness sides along espresso, dates and blackberries just as a good dose of grassy and orangey hops procure a sense of spicy identity. Great balance from start to finish, the flavors blend in together. Medium bodied, engaging carbonation, dry palate, restrained bitterness despite the pleasant hop aromatics. Yum.
