Pint on draft. Pours jet black with tan head. Aroma is chocolate and hops. Taste is Chocolate malt with hoppy backbone. It’s pretty darn good. ajnepple (6606) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 4, 2014
On tap at Vine Street Pub. Black with a light brown head and patchy lacing. Hoppy aroma of fresh citrus/tropical fruits, pine, roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Similar flavor, medium bitterness and mild sweetness. Medium body with a lingering, dry finish. Quite nice. notalush (5873) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 2, 2014
Vine Street - stout month 2014 - dances the line between hoppy stout and black ipa - creamy texture and rich malt base, with flavors of cocoa, anise, espresso - hops are woody, citric, earthy - they don’t entirely work with the malt, but this is still fairly enjoyable. On tap at mountain sun. Pours a dark brown with a half finger of fine tan head. Aroma is hoppy with mildly roasted background. Flavor is strong hoppy, citrus, resinous. Finishes with mild/minimal roasted malt and stout character. Significant hop bitterness throughout. Not sure why this black ipa is on the stout month list. Moderate carbonation, medium-light body, oily and slightly watery texture. An interesting beer but needs a fair bit more malt/roasted character. TronnyJenkins (92) - Texas, USA - DEC 27, 2012
M.S. #3! I love the aroma- very resiny and toasty. Mouthfeel is a but too bubbly, but I can get past it. Continuing the trend of drier beers, this one doesn’t disappoint. Pretty tasty.

On tap at Vine Street Pub for stout month, I haven’t had this in a couple years so I was excited. I remember this bring super hoppy and it still is. It’s obviously black but it smells like simcoes, a little catty. The taste is like a single IPA snd a stout at the same time. Possible black IPA?

Tap @ Southern Sun. Called Trickster Black IPA on the menu but it really does taste more like a stout. Deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Roasty chocolate malty, earthy, light coffee, a little burnt aroma. Fairly roasty, light caramel, chocolate, earthy, char flavor. Bleh. rhialistic (156) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 19, 2012
Tap @ Vine Street. Jet black with thin tan head and some lacing. Heavy citrusy hops with dark chocolate roasted malts on the nose. Lots of piny, resiny hop bitterness up front as well as dark bitter coffee flavors. Medium body with a dry, astringent finish and lingering hoppiness. arminjewell (9635) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - FEB 2, 2012
Pour on tap at vine st pub is dark brownish black with tan head, aroma brings notes of pine, grapefruit hops, touch of chocolate and roasted notes, very hoppy aroma. Taste is a nice big bitter and resinous hop, pine and some slight citrus notes, goes into dark cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, caramel, finishing very bitter from the hops. I dug this one.
