Mountaineer Red Ale was designed by our brewers with full-malt flavor in mind. This deep amber brew was crafted with rich caramel malts, Munich malt, and a special blend of hops from the Pacific Northwest and New Zealand. You will find this ale well balanced and complex, a great choice anytime of the year.

Draft from a West Virginia Pub (Charleston) This beer has a beautiful color. Head was thin and quickly demished. I was a bit surprized that the mouth feel was much thinner than the color and malt aroma would suggest. I was also turned off by the sour finish that lingers. This sourness will keep me from ordering again.

12oz bottle, maroon label. Deep copper, reddish color. Light tan head. Hard to sense aroma Smells of bamboo chopsticks, toffee, caramel malt, floral hops. Loads of caramel in the nose. This is an old bottle, especially with this beer now...(RETIRED). Off flavors. There is a touch of chocolate malt, mostly sour stomach acid. Barf. Finishes dry not much sweetness left in this bottle. Too bad, its gone bad. 6,5,2,1,11

Big thanks to Plaleslu for passing along this WV beer. Dont generally look for state ticks, but since this is where I grew up I really wanted something from the state. pours dark bronze with a light tan sudsy head. The aroma has lots of caramel, toasty malt, toffee, sweetness and red fruit. Medium / full slick body thats quite velvety and has a low amount of carbonation. The taste has a good amount of funky fruit, syrupy sweetness, some apples and phenols. The finish is odd with an off-fruitiness. Okay beer. Hope to find some more WV beer on my next trip there.

7/25/10. 12oz bottle courtesy phaleslu! Thanks, man! Brownish, cola pour with red when held to the light and a fizzy off-white head that goes fast. Very off chocolatey-pukey aroma that I cant place. Roasted malts and chocolate in the flavor. Hmmm.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of malt, cereal, slight toasting, and a hint of caramel. Poured deep amber/red/orange in color with a small, beige head that greatly diminished, and lasted around the edges only. Clear. Very sparkling. A few small particles throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of malt, grains, and slight toasting. Not much flavor. Medium body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Lightly sweet, malt, grain, and slight toasted finish is dry.

12 oz. bottle from a six pack my brother was kind enough to pull off I-70 and pick up at a Kroger in Wheeling. My first West Virginia beer. Pours a somewhat cloudy red amber color with a small off-white head that leaves a film on the beer and ring around the inner edge of the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, wet tea leaves, brown sugar, grass, a little butterscotch, and earth. Flavor of caramel malts, tea, grass, earth, rust, and flat cola. Light-bodied, with pretty light carbonation and a tea-like mouthfeel. Actually has a lot of similarities to tea. Simple and sessionable, and not bad at all.

Pours an amber reddish color with an off white head. Aroma is malty with some toasted malts, caramel, slight fruitiness, and pretty much no hops. Flavor is pretty much the same with an odd off flavor I cant quite figure out.

Bottle at the Relentless Thirst Tasting on 08/29/2009. Clear reddish brown body with a medium frothy off-white head. Sweet nutty and caramel aroma. Sweet nutty and caramel flavor, somewhat dry finish. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

Pours a deep red amber with a tan head. Aroma of rasins, caramel, and nuts. Flavor matches the aroma, with some toasted malts towards the finish. A very smooth beer that is better than I expected.
