2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark clear poor with a nice off white head. Aroma is of slight hops and roast. Flavour is bitter hops coco powder and an overly dry Finnish.
10/3/14. Draft at Bull McCabes. Pours dark mahogany with minimal head and lacing. Light nose with hints of pine and roasted malt. What really makes this beer is it's wonderfully complex tasted malt notes of chocolate, licorice and other bright notes. Hops form a strong backbone without overwhelming the malts.

"Adequately malty (chocolate and roasted malts) and hoppy (tropical fruits, bittering hops and some pine & spice). Nice body. Flavor and bitterness lingers. Solid." BOSSbrewer (2705) - Arkansas, USA - JUL 21, 2014
Had at the Great Arkansas Beer Festival 2014. Pours dark brown to black. Roast is evident as is citrus and lots of pine. Slight cardboard. Medium bodied and flavorful. Cocoa and roasted malts. Very nice beer, though I’m not a fan of the style. varanid99 (1338) - AUSTRALIA - APR 9, 2014

Fare thee well Josh tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Leighton. Opaque black - brown beer, good pale tan - cream coloured head. Palate is airy.and light and a little soft. Good dark malts, light and airy but bringing a little roast bitterness. Light piney hops with lesser citrus backing it up. Touch of lactose cream in the malt. Finishes dry with a good deal of bitterness. Little spice.
Bottle shared in London for my farewell drinks. Cheers to Leighton the general black IPA finding man. Pours dark brown with a nicely retained beige head. Nose is huge pine, quite earthy, big dirty cocoa and balancing roast. Taste is powdery and very dry cocoa followed by some grapefruit tang, big pine, aniseed and orange rind. Quite a decent drop Theydon_Bois (20612) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2014
Bottle shared at Josh’s Farewell Hoorah - thanks to Leighton the CDA finder general, 20/02/14.
Dark mahogony brown with a well appointed light tan head that retains well.
Nose is light cocoa, earthy hops, bitter grapefruit, light smoke, dank tones, tropical fruit tango, straw.
Taste comprises brown rye bread, dank hop notes, bitter roast, cocoa powder, dark malts, bitter grapefruit.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi aggressive hop bitterness in the close.
A bitter bitter bastard - me likey ! Scopey (15687) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 20, 2014
Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours darkest brown/near black with a thick light tan head. The nose is soapy, pine, roasted malt, faint fart, meaty and liquorice. The is raw bitterness, peppery, burnt notes, soapy, grapefruit, palate wrecking bitterness, roasted malt and toast with a bitter finish. Medium body and moderate carbonate. A bit raw and aggressive. Ok, but far from refined. Leighton (22303) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 20, 2014
Bottle shared in London to celebrate Man Licker. Bottle picked up in CA. Pours clear, dark brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose has toasted pine, a bit of dry citrus rind, earth. Light sweet flavor with aggressive earthy bitterness, charred grass, hefty bitter cocoa, ash. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Abrasive bitter finish, more burnt pine, earth, minerals, toasted grass, more dried citrus rind. Meh. Pretty harsh bitterness here. douglas88 (9625) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 2, 2014
On tap at APEX. Pours a dark ashy color with a medium white head. A big sweet chocolate and pin nose. The flavor is tropical fruit, oranges, big cocoa and dark chocolate. Very nice CDA.
