Draft - Sweet caramel and some almost red berry notes. Clear copper with a decent white head. Light grains, caramel and a bit of vegetal notes.

Draught at Moylans. Almost clear copper liquid with small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruit, light smoke and toffee. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of grain, light smoke and caramel. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Quite grainy. Forgettable.

Draft at source. Strong malty sweet and caramel nose. Very clear deep orange red with a small white head. Taste is incredibly malty up front with a hint a roast in finish. Light butterscotch. Decent.

Sample on tap at the brewpub. Clear copper pour with tenacious foamy white head. Aroma is very malty, barley candy, rich caramel/toffee. Taste of toasted malt, caramel, light booze, a bit like an english barleywine. Full bodied with med carbonation. Tasty.

beer_rookie (613) - Arkansas, USA - JAN 11, 2016
Pours a cloudy rusty amber red color. Barely any head. No lacing.

Aroma is earthy. Burnt sugar, dark fruits, dates, figs. Alcohol. I’m loving the aroma. Did I mention dates?

Taste is very datey. This is very malty. It’s sweet, it’s nutty. Dates, figs, raisins, burnt sugar. Follows the nose. Not a lot to say, just follow your nose.

Mouthfeel is full. It’s heavy. It’s sweet. It’s smooth. It’s slightly bitter at the finish. While you can’t really taste the alcohol, you can feel it.

Overall, this is good. It’s not my favorite scotch ale, but it’s good. It’s still one I could recommend.

IndianaRed (4871) - Boise, Idaho, USA - DEC 15, 2015
On tap deep reddish brown with a brief wispy tan head. Rather drab deep caramel peaty roast flavors. Very low carbination and a damp earthy character. Nothing stands out and rather boring.

Very tasty scotch ale from Moylans brewing in California! Will buy it again!

Pours a Ruby brown color with tan head. Good balance between malt and hop bitterness

CryptLiquor (8) - oakland, California, USA - OCT 18, 2015 does not count
I’d suggest this beer to those fairly new to the beer world, possibly brought in by West Coast Style IPA’s, and looking for the next logical step away from the heavy hops use and into something still heavy but with slightly more flavor. This has become a staple at the big chain grocery store closest to you. It’s a helpful stepping stone but nothing truly unique.

Found quite drinkable and refreshing. Too many beers are really hopped up these days so it’s nice to find something with a pleasant malt backbone. My pallet is not that great but I know when I find a brewpub that I like.
