Bottle from Cullen’s Pub. The orange flavor was kind of a mess in this... a lot of rind and acid without a pleasing sweetness. Didn’t like this one.
August 2016 - Bottle share on level 42, with thanks to Kenny. As ’Moylans Orange & Black Congrats Ale!’. Black with a red hue, foamy brown head. Aroma is earthy, orange, airy roasted malt. Bottle shared on Level 42 15/08/2016. Many thanks to Kenny for this one. A dark mahogany brown coloured pour with a a loose tan head. Aroma is soapy, cedar wood, spicy orange, cinnamon. Flavour is composed of mineral, spicy citrus, orange, dried woody grains, woody tannin. Palate is semi sweet, highish carbonation, mineral, . Level 42 Bottleshare. Almost opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is airy, semi dry and has decent fine carbonation. Soft dark malts, trace of dark chocolate. Tangy orange, some orange peel. Soft finish. Seems more like a flavoured stout, lacks hop punch. It’s fine.
Fra fat på Cardinal (sesongåpning Mi2) aug-16: brunsvart med fint skum som varer. Aroma minner om appelsinsjokolade med en spiseskje kaffe. Sursyrlig smak med appelsin, ikke helt modne bringebær og snev av røstet malt. Den endte opp som kveldens eneste hvor meningene rundt bordet var nokså delte eller mellomfornøyde. Bottle shared at the August Level 42 tasting. Thanks to Ken. It pours a clean brown color with a small beige head. Aroma is tangy woody roasty with bitter grass notes and wood. Taste is also tangy woody roasty with wood melon and lemon peel. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Light black with a decent tan swirl.
Nose is cocoa powder, charr, light spice, earthy berry, light orange peel.
Taste comprises charr, brown bread, light soap dish, orange peel, light pine.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with earthy hop bitterness.
Average, a touch overly soapy.
Bottle care of Kenny. It pours darkest brown - black with a medium beige head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, charred wood, dark chocolate, orange peel, cocoa powder, earth and dirt. The taste is smooth, toasty, earthy roast, charred wood, cocoa, earthy, orange peel and earth with a dry, woody finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. On tap at Cardinal. Pours black with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma of red ripe berries, weak liquorice. Taste is light sweet dark red fruits, cherries, easy drinkable but nothing extra, lack the roasty burnt notes that i like in an BIPA.
