On Tap at the the Brauerei Mahlzmuhle in Koeln. Along with Paffgen, one of the two most distinctive and enjoyable Kolschs. Where Paffgen is hoppier, spicier; Muhlen Kolsch leans toward malt character. A twinge of malt in the body. Undertone of anise or perhaps softer; fennel. Pale yellow with a glint of copper.

Bottle. Pale Gold in colour. Malty; grainy malts, caramel, toffee. Fruity (hints of citrus fruit). Mildly sweet. Dryish. (2008)

Pailhead (6539) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - JAN 2, 2017
On tap: The aroma consists of mild sweet cereal notes and light grass/straw. It’s a transparent gold with a small white head that fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with lightly sweet cereal notes. The finish has light grass, straw, and a hint of minerals. It’s light bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel.

Pours a clean golden color with medium white head. Watery aroma and taste. Straw, mild floral character, sweet malts, grain and herbal. Sweet finish to it. Lacking of flavours.

Bottle was behind the ninth door of my beer advent calendar. Appearance: Nice golden color, clear, with a quickly disappearing white foam and very little visible carbonation. Aroma: Quite malty with some floral and citrus notes. Taste: Good balance between sweetness and bitterness with a very subtle and refreshing sourness. Very good. Palate: Medium texture with a slick texture, soft carbonation and a relatively long finish. Overall: Solid Kölsch with a good taste and a bit too flat aromas.

Bottle. Clear bright golden colour. Decent head. Aroma of malts, hops and basement. Almost Pils-like. Taste is bready, grainy and spicy. Very flavourful for a Kölsch. Crisp and refreshing. Quite a mouthfeel for a Kölsch that’s probably the wheat talking. Rather high carbonation. Good.

Tap from source in Cologne. It’s a golden beer with lots of white head. It had a more blended flavor compared with the Fruh. Citrus, spice and floral and less malt content. Still refreshing.

Ein Kölsch halt - da gibt es an sich wenig Unterschiede. Mühlen gehört zu den Besseren. Eine Spur malziger im Geschmack als der Rest der Branche.
