COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mühlen Kölsch has been brewed and filled by hand in the traditional way since 1858, in the original building of the Brewery zur Malzmühle at the Hay Market. Only natural, raw ingredients of the highest quality are used: barley malt and a small portion of wheat malt, high-quality aroma hops, spring water and yeast. The combination of ingredients and production using an old family recipe dating back to 1858 imparts the typical, characteristically robust, malty, full-flavored taste to our Mühlen Kölsch.

Zlotta (3278) - Hagen / Düsseldorf, GERMANY - APR 2, 2017
0.5 l bottle from a Kiosk, best before June 2017. Clear, golden yellow with a thin, frothy, almost stable, white head. Faint, sweetish, slightly grainy and a bit grassy aroma of grains and straw. Sweetish, slightly bitter, quite grassy and minimally fruity taste of lots of straw, grains and slight hints of citrus, followed by a short, moderately bitter, grassy, a bit dry and slightly metallic finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite okay, very quaffable, might be better from tap though.

330 ml bottle via trade with Koelschtrinker. Thank you!

Looks: Clear light golden colour; Three-quarter finger head with soapy white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Fair sticky lacing with notable small carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant, slightly pungent strong Lager malt, with strong yellow fruits, very light dark fruits, caramel, light tartness, floral, sugar, biscuits, lemon and light grass.

Taste: Close to light sweet fair Lager malt, with moderate wheat, light tartness, fair yellow fruits, carbo, floral, sugar notes, dry bread, very light lemon and thin bitter grassy hops.

Body: Close to light body. Watery and quite crisp palate.

Mouth Feel: Good Lager maltyness in a wheat-thinned background. Mouthful of light yellow fruits bounded by light tartness. Flowery and low sweetness, dry bready with light lemon to round. Crisp and nice!

Hoppiness: Lemon and light grass in nose, same in taste but a lot lighter; Bitterness is low for an abrupt, low astringent wheaty malty finish.

After Taste: Fairly dry. Crisp and quite easy to mouth.

Comments: Finally, got to taste a real Koelsch from one of Cologne’s established brew pub. Its smell and taste has pretty vibrant yellow fruitness, and the Lager chrarcter cannot be buried by a smooth wheatyness. Crisp and pretty straight forward, with the Ale’s niceness works pretty well with the well-round Lager base. I bet it’ll taste even better on taps. Very neat Koelsch!

Pailhead (6539) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - JAN 2, 2017
On tap: The aroma consists of mild sweet cereal notes and light grass/straw. It’s a transparent gold with a small white head that fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with lightly sweet cereal notes. The finish has light grass, straw, and a hint of minerals. It’s light bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel.
