Blackish-brown, with rich, white foamy head. Medium body and bitterness. Chocolate and subdued roasted malt notes. Slightly watery, bland. Certainly not as substantial a brew as comparable dry stouts. Easy drinking, but lacks real character. Too bad it doesn't drink as good as it looks and smells.

In bottle: Very dark brown with rocky tan head and good lacing. Of the 3 major Irish Dry stouts, this one has more chocolate tones and less coffee tones. The mouthfeel is thin and soft, always have detected a "milk" like presence from this brew during tasting. It smooth and could be drank all day, but I found the lack of bitter bite leaves it boring after more than one.

A session beer with character. Dry black malt and roasted barley, expresso and dark chocolate flavors are subtle. Just the right amount of bitterness, not much hop aroma.

As all other (good) Irish beers, Murphys looks great with an impressive head. Aroma and flavour is mostly characterised by coffee, chocolate, and a smooth fairly bitter dry finish - perhaps even with hints of smoke. A fine beer, although I would probably never buy more than one (pint) at a time.

(draught in Ireland) very dark black with gorgeous tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Flavors of coffee and dark chocolate with just a hint of sweetnesss. Mild bitterness at the end.

Can specifically says "unchilled cans may overflow" and "serve chilled". BS. If this can't cut it at room temperature, it's not worthy. Can opened over sink - does not overflow. Beer pours (in Hoegaarden glass) a near black (but can be seen through held up to light) with no head unless agitated. I agitate and get a creamy, beige head. Aroma is of coffee and dark chocolate. Like other stouts I know, the consistency is like water and the flavor is a strong, burned coffee, with a slight biterness at the end of each mouthful. Overall, a great beer for a stout. Sampled at 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

Black with a lite tan creamy head. Tastes a lot like Guinness without the burnt flavor. Very good stout.

A little sweeter than Guinness and just as pretty with its thick tan head and rich dark body.

Roasty. Sweeter than Guiness and not as much body. Actually this beer is kind of watery.

St. Patrick's Day 2001 Nice. Has the roasty flavour of Guinness but is much sweeter and I think better. Not as thick and smooth as Guinness but nice
