Maintains the very high standard of the series. Going well as a 6yr old but I do get the sense it is drink soon(ish) beer. Subtle at the strength and dry; not sure if this is the age or the stylistic intentions of the beer talking. Remains one of the great beers of Australia but perhaps just not as compelling as the early releases (maybe a product of competition?) Muggus69 (2807) - Yarram, Vic, AUSTRALIA - FEB 27, 2016
corked & caged 750mL bottle from Brewery. Brewed 2009
Quite a dark pour for a Barley Wine (age?) - bronze ruby-highlighted edges, holds small orange-beige ring of cream.
Potent sort of aroma - sultana, raisins, prunes, burnt toffee, Seville orange marmalade, earthy spice, touch of Rancio & overly ripe tropical fruits (paw paw!?).
Subdued carbonation, thick yet dry overall impression, smooth, silky, slightly tannic, warming on finish.
Big smooth body - rich caramels, stacks of dried fruits, oak comes through more with toasty oak, char, gun powder, peaches and apricot, toasty nutty malt notes. Long finish, plenty of bitterness.
In great shape for a 5+ year old Barley Wine, great choice to bring up number 1800! Madsnp (933) - DENMARK - APR 5, 2014
