Murray's Grand Cru is a tripel made with an authentic Belgian yeast and pours a pale straw colour with a fluffy white head. Hints of banana and bubblegum, backed with dry-hopped spicyness of Hallertau hops, dominate the aroma and flavour, which is balanced by silky biscuity malt flavours. This intense ale finishes full-bodied with a mellow bitterness.

330ml bottle. Almost clear gold with a modest white head. Light caramel, nectarine, soap and spice aroma. Mellow fruity taste with peaches and pears as well as quite a bit of caramel. There’s a little bitterness in the pepper and clove finish. Interesting mouthfeel - it’s a little undercarbonated for a Tripel and it’s not very yeasty, but there’s enough there to make it full without being all that heavy.

330ml bottle. Pours a cloudy dark gold, with a large head which takes some time to disappear. The nose has some sweet yeast notes, with a touch of sweet malt as well. There is a faint trace of floral hops to begin, but certainly not the "spicy Hallertau hops" advertised. This is followed by far too much sweet malt, mainly caramel, with some white bread, and some faint yeastiness. The problem with this beer is a lack of balance. It is far too sweet, without enough bitterness to counterpoint it. I doubt this is a problem merely confined to this beer either. It is true of all tripels that I have tasted, and hence I must conclude that it is not my favourite style.

Aromas of sweet fruit, apricot and pears, in this Belgian style ale. Hops are spicy and have some dry bitterness. Malts arte sweet and fruity. Very pleasing ale.

330mL bottle. Pours clear pale gold with a small persistent white head. Nice aroma of acidic fruit (apple, grape) and earthy yeast and some alcohol. Medium sweetness, a bit like fruit juice, mild bitterness and a bit of heat from the alcohol. Medium bodied, average carbonation, very creamy with a mild bitter finish.

On tap at brewery. Pours a nice clear golden amber with a nice fluffy white head. Aromas are quite sweet with lots of light fruit, mainly pear, and honey. Some typical belgium yeast character and some light biscuity malt sweetness. Very floral and good aromas. Flavour wise some light malt sweetness with plemty of fruity sweetness coming through. Finishes quite dry with some spice and a little alcohol. Nice beer.

Unique, if a little too straight forward. Lots of honey, banana and a bit of bubblegum with a nice body, but it never really develops or goes anywhere. A shame as it has a lot of potential.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2010 One of the best beers that Murray has made (apart from his limiteds ie. endless summer). Caramel and bubblegum combined to make this a very tasty surprise when i visited the brewery.

Tap at the Local Taphouse (Melbourne). Not pretty, but very tasty. Aroma has apple, bubblegum, caramel, and spice. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes, and long lasting. Palate is silky, with a medium-to-full body, and a dry finish. Dark yellow, with a frothy white head.

A nice, very drinkable belgian Golden Strong Ale style beer. Has some good malt character, with soft alcoholic notes, quite fruity too.
