Opaque brown - black beer. Short tan head. Surprisingly crisp palate. Rich dark malt with a trace of roast. Minerals. Coffee. Subtle fruits underneath. Tangy dark malt before a crispy dry finish. Lingering licorice bitter aftertaste. Decent and quite light on it’s toes.
Bottle - pours deep dark ruby with a thin tan head. Aroma is chocolate, rum, dried fruit and mild burnt sugar. Taste is sweet molasses hit up front, then a malt middle and a drying burnt sugar/dried fruit finish. Countbeer (6592) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - MAY 23, 2015
Bottle: Thanks Owen: Shaker:
Black body, creamy brown head.
Aroma is very interesting: yeast, flowers, marzipan, prunes, raisins, liquorice, coffee, some rubber.
Flavour is roasty, spice, chocolate, some coffee and other dark ingredients with a crispy yeast tone, very nice.
Aftertaste is roasty, bitter, fruity, marzipan, coal and some wood roast.
Low carbo, silky mouthfeel, close to full bodied. stevoj (4960) - Boise, Idaho, USA - APR 14, 2015
After sucking down countless Shitty lagers in Western Australia, I’ve found beer nirvana in the east. Dark seems to be the strength. Another great RIS, mellow but with a kick in the aftertaste. These RIS come on normal (think Guinness) but pack a wallop. Nice to see as t hides the burn. Murrays has the style down pat. lusikka (7813) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 27, 2014

Medium bodied and soft carbonation. Finishes sweet and warming. Weird. TBone (17439) - Pori, FINLAND - JUN 27, 2014

Pours pitch black with a smooth head. Aroma of roastiness, some yeastiness, hints of spices, licorice and dark chocolate. Taste is sweet, leathery and ashy with some yeastiness, licorice and dark chocolate. Finish is malty, leathery and ashy with some roastiness and yeasty notes. Okay.
33 cl bottle @ PBF IX.laiti (8374) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 27, 2014
Pours dark ruby red, almost black color with a small head. Some cola-like notes on the aroma, caramel and some malts. Sweet caramel malts and soy on the flavor, dark fruits and sugar. Way too sweet and not that pleasant.
33cl bottle @ PBF ⅨStew41 (2021) - Phuket, THAILAND - JAN 4, 2014
Aroma has soy sauce, some licorice and grainy tones. Flavour has some licorice, roasted malts and soy sauce. Also some strong alcohol tones on some sips. Feels rather thin, straightforward and light for an IS.
A cellaring experiment (mid 2011 bottling). Should have tasted on release to get a better means on comparison but I suspect this hasn’t done too much over the past 2.5 years. Quite faithful to the style but the abv is a bit rough, boozy and peaty. Doesn’t make for easy drinking albeit structurally very sound for its age. Shark_Pants (735) - AUSTRALIA - DEC 29, 2013
Pours pitch black with small tan head that disappears quickly leaving a film on top. Aromas of Belgian yeast, dark fruits, toffee. Interestingly, has aromas more similar to a quad. Taste is pitched somewhere between an imperial stout and a quad - caramel, cherries, plums, raisins, Vegemite, with the more familiar roasted malts and dark chocolate bitterness in the finish. Quite full bodied with a light oily texture. Lots of flavours, if not exactly lots of layers, and not strictly to style but very enjoyable nonetheless.
