A recently created style in the USA, Icon 2IPA is made in the American/Imperial Indian Pale Ale Style. Icon 2IPA is an extreme beer - extensive hopping creates intense citrus/passionfruit/peppery characters in the flavour and aroma balanced by sweet biscuity malt, which finishes with full bodied, rich and with a rounded bitterness. At 7.5% alcohol, Icon 2IPA is a beer to be savoured.

Pours a light golden haze white a nice small white head which dissipates to a small white lace ring. The nose is all about tropical fruit, a little banana and some peppery spice. Chewy roasted malts, much more malt and toasted malts then expected. Hop bitterness comes through nicely, more tropical fruits, a little spritzy and a light resin. Finished nicely, mainly due to the great malt back-bone, a the bitterness isn't over powering. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle.

Pours a dark golden with not much white head that dissipates quickly.

Nose is very unusual for an IPA. It’s got some of the usual citrus and passionfruit aromas, but I also get a really dark, sweet nose. Almost like rum and some toffee. Interesting.

On the attack you get a big burst of passionfruit. This is followed on the mid palate by some citrus and pine notes. Towards the end is where it really starts to shine. There’s more of those rich, sweet prune and caramel notes followed by a quite bitter, resinous finish.

This beer is really excellent. It’s still got the amazing hop flavours and aromas of other big hoppy beers, but they’re really well balanced by delicious sweetness.

Frumpy, unimpressive ale as far as appearance. Whispy, shortlived head, oily with good legs. Murky, dirty orange with no evident carbonation. Resinous whole hop nose dominated by pineneedles, pineapple, blood orange, camphor and pale stonefruit with a good background, biscuity malt note. Balanced and poised. Much less of what I somehow thought this would be. What is delivered is a very controlled, malt forward though hop positive ale that downs with a frightening ease. Oily, rounded, sweet and tangy with oozing amounts of caramelised stonefruit and citrus, chewy malt and licks of pine-nuts and toothpicks, green herb roughage and a touch of burnt toast. A decent drop. (33cL, BB 02/05/14, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Having had quite a few Douple IPAs from various brewers in Europe I have to say that this really did impress me. Pours a murky brown with a thick white head. Lovely citrus taste and lasting bitter finish.

On tap at Murray’s in Manly, April 2013. Hazy orange with a slight, off-white head. Big, hoppy aroma with grapefruit, orange and pine. Full-bodied, with more citrus fruit, biscuity malts, and some marmalade sweetness, before a dryish finish with a touch of prickliness. Enjoyable.

Hazy deep amber beer. Tidy white head. Creamy malt nose with a trace of caramel. Light palate, fluffy with fine carbonation. Nice caramel malt background. Nicely balanced hops that start sweet and piney but morph into bitter grapefruit. Semi dry finish with a mild bitter linger. Good stuff.
