Absolutely sensational beer!! Great taste and mouthfeel, then a moreish, dangerous dry finish. Something for the hopheads and something for the black beer snobs. Well done Shawn. The best brewer in Australia? davidm (2081) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - MAR 12, 2010
Tap. Great beer, tastes like an imperial stout. Aromas of apple, liquorice, dark fruit, and coffee. Taste is great, with a sweet start and a long-lasting bitter finish. Palate is velvety, with a medium-to-full body. Colour is a very dark brown, with a frothy white head. ComradeK (1256) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - OCT 12, 2011
330ml bottle. Pours a near opaque, ruby-hued black, with a large beige head, which lasts well, and leaves excellent lacing. Fresh, strong hop aromas of pine and grapefruit mix with some floral notes and some very imperial stout-like molasses and dark chocolate. A sharp lemon flavour introduces the beer, moving into a strong bitterness, with pine, spice and some chilli. This gives way to a sublimely dark and malty body, with rye bread, dark chocolate and wafer biscuit flavours mingling pleasantly. Floral hops reappear towards the finish, along with a touch of spice and coffee. This is an amazingly good beer, as I have come to expect from Murray’s. It combines the best elements of an IPA and an imperial stout to create a dark and luscious beer with a huge kick of hops to pep things up - a lovely brew indeed. jdpeebs (686) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 8, 2012
I love this beer. The idea of putting an IPA and and a dark beer, my two favorites styles together was brilliant. A fantastic hop aroma and enriched by the great chocolate and dark malt profile. Easy to drink, which could end up to be dangerous, with the abv of 7.5%.

330ml bottle at Murrays Manly. Strong black colour with a a coffee and dark chocolate aroma that leads into the flavour which is great. Full bodied and definetley not Shawn’s fault.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2012 Murrays never disappoint, this is another ripper. Coffee, Chocolate, some roasted malts and hops on the nose. Dark chcoclate and coffee at first is tasted but then the hops come in to make it full of flavour but very well balanced whilst being fairly bitter. I was lucky enough to have this on tap at Manly Murrays. mullet (849) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAR 26, 2010
Tap at Beer Deluxe. Very impressive beer. Dry, lean and freshly hoppy in a way that Big Wednesday wasn’t. Seems to me like classic US hops - fresh and piney, with a lot more aroma than flavour and bitterness. Doesn’t taste especially roasty (it’s a deep brown, nowhere near black) but has a line of dark chocolate running through it, which perhaps might enhance the dryness. It’s a really great mix, super tasty. I’d love to see them brew a pale IPA this good! gam (4037) - brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JUL 24, 2011

Bottle. Smells great - tropical fruit. Lots of chocolate malt flavour with pine from the hops. Delicious.
