Bottle from trade with fletchfighters, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew on Christmas Tasting 2012. Pours a pitch black body with a huge bubbly light khaki head. Aroma is black berries, ashes, coffee, hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is coffee, chocolate, medicinal bitter herbal tones, hints of licorice, wood and ashes. A bit strange, and it also seems over-carbonated and fizzy. Not among the best, hope it’s a bad bottle although it didn’t seem to be actually infected. Bottled. Poured very deep brown with a short, well-retained dark tan head. The aroma picked up a nice blend of toasted chocolate and coffee notes, with fresh earthy spice and rye accents.. warm and welcoming. The flavor found a very heavy base of mocha and lesser licorice, with lively, fresh pine resin and floral bitterness around.. quite hoppy on the finish over more warm chocolate and coffee.. some alcohol warmed the belly, but not 10% worth. Heavy-bodied with great balance between rich malts and fresh, complimentary hoppage.. smooth feel across the middle.. really good stuff! DeliriumT (545) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - NOV 23, 2012
Pours black with dark chocolate head. Aroma is piney hops and faint hints of coffee. Flavour is thick bitter chocolate. Too heavy on the bitterness but otherwise spectacular kraddel (9323) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - NOV 2, 2012

Pitch black in colour with thick white head.Alcohol on nose, overpowers subtle coffee notes. Strong coffee flavours, with fruity undertones.

33 cl. bottle split - thx. to Kraddel / Dylan. Finally an Australian beer - it sure took a while and I know that I could have just gotten a Fosters but Australia supposedly has good craft beer and I wanted to try a good one. For some reason Catwoman is pictured on the label - looks pretty stupid. Black with a nicely lacing brown head. This is quite hoppy stuff, fresh bottle - lots of NZ hops in here, kiwi, white grapes, litchi, damn, also mocha, chocolate and booze - colour me intrigued. Light round roast taste, bitter, much heavier mocha, chocolate, quite bitter with still some NZ hops, lighter than in the nose, lots of ice coffee, still pretty damn hoppy, oily nuts - medium oily bodied - an interesting one that is for sure - Australia I salute thee dreadnord (1012) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 28, 2012
Pouts thick and black with a small brown head. Nose is massive chocolate, little vanilla, some coffee and light grass. Taste is bitter with a decent malt backbone. Great balance. Mouthfeel is heavy, crisp and has a long finish.

Jet black, tightly laced head, great mouthfeel. Huge, delicious, sweet malty monster of a beer- watch out for this one!

Really is the best from Murrays and one of my favourite beers. The flavour balance is near perfect for this style. good mix of alcohol warmth smooth creamy dark chocolate and bitter espresso. nice uplifting fruitiness on the nose that compliments a rich chocolate aroma. great beer. ciaranc (1306) - Dublin, IRELAND - SEP 5, 2012
Pours deep black with a rich, coffee brown head. Cocoa powder aroma. Sweet, sharp and light up front, dissipating into a medium heavy, smooth, flatly carbonated dark chocolate bitter finish. Big alcohol is warming but not detectable in taste. Excellent.
