A seasonal beer of Belgian origin, brewed for harvest time. A complex beer for sure, from the unique yeast strain, and a combination of malts to the unusual fermentation temperature comes a beer that is spicy, somewhat fruity, light bodied, and with a quenching bitterness. The aromas and flavors will be enhanced by allowing the beer warm slightly. Brewed primarily in the French speaking region of Belgian and the farming community there. A one of a kind style.

Pour was a dirty blonde with a large white head. Aroma was nice a fruity with some vanilla and yeast. Flavoir was also above par with a touch of pepper and citrus fruit along with some corriander and spice. Nice example of the style.

Small pour (approximately 3 oz.), on tap at Gitchee Gumee Brewfest in Superior, WI on 4-5-08. This was the fifth of 12 beers that I rated (out of about 20 total beers that I tried). It was listed as simply "Muskie Capital Saison" at the festival. This was my favorite beer of the Brewfest. Pours a clear, dark brass / medium brown, quite dark for a saison. Small amount of beige head. Very nice, Belgian-style, sweet aroma with some dusty dryness. The taste has a very sweet start with a lightly dry finish. Medium body. Crisp, smooth, and lively in the palate. I was highly impressed by this offering and will seek out Muskie Capital if I am ever in its area.

Poured from a growler; rustic, cloudy orange appearance. Slightly old bananas in the aroma, with lots of pure cinnamon and clove spiciness; hints of toasted vanilla, almond, and caramel. A generous powdering of nuance settling on a delicately balanced body of calm sweetness; very pleasant. Flavor is flowery and sweet; quite delicate with light tones of pistachio, lavender, white pepper, banana, and ginger. Very creamy, soft, and well arranged in the mouth; balanced and interesting. Finishes with a soft milky sweetness. A fantastic domestic saison. Thanks for sharing, Bob!

On draught at the brewpub in Hayward, Wisconsin. Pours a clear copper amber amber with a thick, creamy and lumpy off-white head that has some excellent retention and thick lacing. Aroma of clean crystal grain malt, some grassy hops, a touch of banana esters and cloves. Taste is light to medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of light multi-grain malt, banana esters, a touch of white pepper and herbal spices. Finish is semi-dry, a mild bitterness with some aftertaste of light banana, cloves and cereal grain malt. There was no sediment in this saison but still quite drinkable.

Sampled draught at the Autumn Brew Review in Minneapolis, October 7 2006. Dark hazy amber with a smallish but persistent head....nose at first very sweet, herbal (cardamom, ginger) character showing up quickly as the sugary notes die, dry grassy notes start to dominate....body rather tart, earthy, low-to-moderate sweetness, lots of doughy yeastiness in the mouthfeel....finish is borderline sour with some interesting mineral qualities. Not bad.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2008 One of the highlights of the 2006 Autumn Beer Review. This nanobrewer did this Saison right (and did a much better job than Town Halls half-hearted effort a few months ago). The aroma makes this beer immediately recognizable as a saison. There is yeast and barnyard weirdness. More yeast in the flavor, a little sour and some weird spices as well. Touch of citrus and lightly hopped. A cloudy yellow beer, looks like it might not be filtered. -------taste from growler March, 2007. Score raised by 2 points.
