While the legend of Mad Tom is laden with mystery and intrigue, one thing remains clear: Mad Tom did things his own way. Twice as Mad Tom is an aggressively twice-dry-hopped Imperial India Pale Ale, that delivers a definitive hop aroma & unabashedly big bold flavour. We brew this beer with the road less traveled in mind, and in the spirit of old Mad Tom...we make no bones about it.

Bottle from West Coast Liquor, Burnaby
The cleverly hidden bbd says it should have been consumed before 18 Oct 2013

It pours a hazy orange-amber color with medium head. Some aroma of caramel and fading hops. Lean body, malty, not too sweet, with mellow caramel, pleasant fruity hops, a bit of sweet orange, correctly bitter.
A good beer although unfresh. I’m willing to try again the new batch.

355mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks Mike), pours a fairly clear darker golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of residual sugars upfront, sweet caramel malts, oranges, and some citrus hops - uh oh, seems to one of those sugary IIPAs. Flavour confirms this, with an upfront flavour of orange soda, candied sugar, and then the hops show face, but they are restrained. Way too much residual sugar makes this one way out of balance IIPA towards the malt side. Strange - the regular Mad Tom is great, so I thought this would be a sure fire great IIPA, but nope - I much prefer the regular one. Flawed, but still drinkable.

Slightly hazy amber. Floral hop aroma, light sticky aroma. Sweet sticky with lots of fruity hops.

Bottle - Grapefruit, orange and sweet malts. Clear copper with a thin white head. Sweet and a subtle pine, with a ton of pine and bitterness. The fish is all bitter and something is making my teeth squeak. Not a fan.

Ratman197 (15105) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - OCT 3, 2014
Bottle poured a hazy golden amber with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of bread, grapefruit, earthiness, light orange zest and a hint of lemon zest. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, grapefruit, earthiness and light pine with a crisp dry moderatly bitter lingering earthy finish.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks troubles. Clear golden. Aroma of graininess, malt, and stale hops. Sweetish flavor with malt, graininess, bitter stale hops. Medium-bodied. BBD is 7/16, but already it seems way too old.

Lubiere (14110) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 16, 2012
A golden amber I2PA with a thin lacing creamy off white head. In aroma, pungent catty and floral hops, meaty notes, biscuit malt. In mouth, a nice smooth biscuit malt with nice citrusy hops, resinous and piney, oily mouthfeel, light alcohol warmth. On tap at Arrow and Loon, Nov. 14 2012.

Bov (13004) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - SEP 17, 2013
from Mondial de la Bière 2013, Mulhouse - clear bronze beer with a poor head retention; pine needles and resiney hoppiness; full-bodied and with some sweetness; chewy marmalade hoppy finish, notes of warming alcohol, almonds, honey and hay - lot of character

Sammy (12491) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 3, 2012
Bottle just arrived at the LCBO. A good drinking DIPA. Orange and tangerine, a complex and interesting melange. Smooth for a DIPA, not a palate eraser. Something I would certainly drink again, and again.Hazy orange.

shrubber85 (11506) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - FEB 3, 2015
Bottle. Orange-grapefruit malt and grapefruit peel/pine aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet orange-lime malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel/pine flavor. Nice balance. Pretty tasty.
