dark mahogany color; nice malty aroma; some coffee and chocolate notes and a good deal of bitterness with some hop notes hman43 (1612) - Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA - JUL 16, 2016
Dark brown in appearance. Roast, dark fruits, a bit smokey and a bit floral. Moderately bitter sweet finish. kto (1341) - SWITZERLAND - SEP 24, 2015
1 pt can. pours clear dark mahogany with a huge frothy beige head (probably the biggest I ever saw) and some chunky lacing. aroma fruits, roasted coffee, smoke. flavour roasted malts, bitter chocolate, some fruity hops. sweetish; slightly sour. not an ipa, but ok as a dark ale. jbruner (4835) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - FEB 28, 2015
Pours a deep brownish black from the bottle with fluffy tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma of roasted malt and sweet fruity esters. Taste is more like a black lager or schwarzbier to me than a black IPA, maybe the hops are supposed to be that fruity, but I don’t think it should be that sweet. Meh. Serving: Draft at Leesville Tap Room. It pours a dark cola like color with a small light tan head. There is a light bit of roast and nuttiness in the nose. There is a light roast the flavor as well with bit of malt sweetness and a slight sour twinge that reminds me of a English dark ale. Fairly light body with average carbonation. Black IPA? I was thinking more of a bitter.

650 ml. Opaque, deep brown with a lasting film of foam. Nose is earthy char, dark roast coffee bean and toffee. Tastes of dark toasted bread, caramel apple, dry cocoa and lightly sour orange toffee. Medium body is velvety smooth with a fine, low-medium carbonation apropos of an English ale. Good balance with a long dry finish of roasted nut shell and a delicate touch of tart fruit. Nice experiment with a style-stretching brew. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - APR 2, 2013
Growler. Pours an extremely dark brown with a tiny head. Nose has a lot of roasting in it with the dry bitterness and slight sourness that I find characteristic of the English hops. Taste very slightly bitter with the roasting dominating the drink. OK. HourGlass13 (951) - North Carolina, USA - MAR 30, 2013
This is dark IPA and lives up to that in every way. Sits in the glass a dark brown almost black. It has a toasty aroma with hints of chocolate. The taste is that of an IPA cause it does have the hop bite but not overpowering. Definitely reminds me somewhat of an english old ale. Very drinkable and I would order it again. ryanscourt (1477) - Latrobe, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 4, 2013
Toasty. A little watery. Hop bitterness at and but really not a strong hop showing. Little bit different than I was expecting. body reminded me more a dark lager but did have a hope finish. Overall I enjoyed it but not great. Rrauth (1196) - North Carolina, USA - SEP 28, 2012
From Beerilicious iphone app: at beerfest. Milk chocolate aroma that is a blackish haze color with frothy tan head. Light sourness to start and light to finish. Oily texture that has lively carbonation and a semi abrupt finish.
