COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A tribute to the history and stature of the famous Somerville landmark, ‘Old Powderhouse Wheat Wine’ features a varietal of hard, red winter wheat that was grown at Four Star Farms in Northfield, MA and malted by Valley Malt in Hadley, MA. Praised by artisanal bakers, the flavors contributed by this hardy grain are earthy and complex helping to create a robust and powerful beer worthy of its name and the history to which it pays homage. For hops, only domestic varieties were used for ‘Old Powderhouse,’ combining perfectly with the rich flavors in the wheat for a bright and wonderfully aromatic beer reminiscent of fresh, ripe fruit. On the dry side for a beer of its strength and style, ‘Old Powderhouse’ is remarkably drinkable at 11% ABV with only subtle hints of alcohol coming through the fruity bouquet during the finish. In celebration of the change in season, of new growth, and of the land we call home, we are pleased to offer ‘Old Powderhouse Wheat Wine’ for release throughout the state of Massachusetts this Spring."

On tap at Draught. Pours a hazed amber apricot orange with a medium sized white head. Citrus and a bit of fruit on the nose. Medium bodied, warm and a touch boozy. While big, it’s still quite drinkable. Long warm citrus and a bit of fruit. Pretty tasty.

Really good beer. Aroma is mainly yeast malt and bread dough. Flavor is similar to nose, with Demerara sugar and a good balance between Bitter, Sweet, and Carbonic tang. Excellent body very good drinking for its strength and likewise superb finish.

Bottle (Dated April 2016) from Table and Vine. Copper with lasting ring and lace. Aroma is a little glooey at first but settles into caramel and wheaty esters. Toasted caramel medium sweetness with light tang and mouthcoating grassy woody bitterness. Medium-full body soft mouthfeel. Takes a little sipping but settles in nicely . . . and it was gone before I could capture it. Shouldn’t have split it with the wife.

Bottled. Pours hazy deep golden with a small off-white head. Aroma of toasted caramel, ripe fruit, wood and spicy notes. Sweet flavor that ends up being more dry with a little bitterness. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A nice Barley. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Fbottled. A hazy amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of straw, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and alcohol, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.
