COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison Renaud exemplifies a modern take on the traditional farmhouse ale. Made with just pilsner malt and Saaz hops, this recipe is made to truly let the assertiveness of our house yeast shine. Presenting a clean and crisp body, the spicy and fruity esters of the yeast prevail over a slight earthy bitterness from the Saaz.

The Name. Renaud show its french ancestry it naming after Bryans great grandmother, Florence Renaud, from Popple Dungeon, VT.

750 ml bottle from Julios. A light straw colored brew. Nice white head. Good carbonation. Citrus-yeast-spice aromas. Flavor is very smooth. Light and fruity with a great yeast character. Notes of lemon, pear and a little pepper. Very refreshing on this hot muggy summer day. This is like a good Belgian Wit, but a lot more interesting. Mystic really hit the mark with this one! Finishes clean with lingering light honey-spice flavors.

In appearances is quite light in yellow color, compounded by a fizzy champagne-like pour. Some citrus on the nose, and maybe apple. Surprisingly full-bodied saison taste and mouthfeel, though, betraying its light appearance. Lemony and peppery saison notes in abundance, with maybe just a hint of apple. Lightness in appearance and fullness in taste combine in peppery lingering notes that are quite short lived. A relatively crisp and delightful saison. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; batch number: 015. Pours lightly hazy golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lemon, orange, apricot, pear, apple, white grape, peppercorn, straw, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, apricot, pear, apple, white grape, peppercorn, straw, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate herbal/yeast spiciness after the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange, apricot, pear, apple, white grape, peppercorn, straw, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from carbonation and yeast spiciness as well. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and fairly grainy/bready/creamy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding saison! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Pours a hazy golden lemon color with a huge fluffy white head that persists forever and leaves lots of lace on the way down. Smells of lemon and pepper with a spicy edge. Belgian yeasty phenols and a hint of earthy spicy hops. Sweet and malty flavor with hints of bread caramel and lemon. The flavor has hints of yeasty and spicy but not as much as the nose lead me to believe. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation and a sweet crisp mouthfeel. Thats a nice saison right there. Its sweet with a bit of tart and a bit of spice but it all works together really well. This has been my favorite so far from the Mystic Saison Brewery.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2013 Multiple samples at GABF 2013, like probably 15-20 ounces. All Pils malt and all Saaz hops on the spec sheet is what intrigued me. I didnt realize I was in for a beautifully classic rendition of DuPont... floral, lemony, minty even, somewhat tart, mild to moderately phenolic. Pilsner malt gives it a fresh baked bread quality while the juicy, herbal, spicy hops provide a salivating, quenching acidity. Strikingly hop-driven saison with a minty, green, sharp Saaz character but all of softness and rusticity of DuPont.

Batch 6 Pours cloudy light yellow with a solid sheet of bone white bubs. Smells of grain, clay yeast, some floral notes and a good hay/squash/butter combo. Flavor is all about this awesome yeast: bread, lemon rind, grass, cornmeal, really nice flavor that is simple, but carries some nuances I just cant articulate. Medium bodied with moderately hi carb and a semi dry finish. Nice beer. I really dig it.

Pours a pale yellow with a good head and good lacing on the glass.

The aroma is earthy with a good wet limestone character. Its got a nice bit of hoppiness to it as well.

The beer is nicely bitter, very dry & earthy but not without a touch of fruitiness. The hop level is nice and provides a herbal character thats well balanced with whats going on malt & fermentation wise.

Dig it lots.
