Oh old friend, how I’ve missed you. Good to see this one clammering back onto the shelves of good bottlo’s Australia wide. At just on cool and into a tulip it goes. Cola brown to black in the dark but of good clarity. Well conditioned, fine carbonation streams endlessly to atmosphere below the weight of a silky, creamy tannish pad of foam that daubs a thick lace. Unusual nose - though last I tried it back in the day I didn’t put much thought into aromatics. Salty brine and kelp precedes a hit of mocha and dusty chocolate, topsoil and damp wood and just a touch of cocoa butter. Creamy, soft and yet full in mouthfeel from the oats. Rather mellowing like a warming glass of bitter sweet chocolate ganache laced with a little over 18’s tipple. Seemingly salty like the nose also having an umami quality. The back end is peppery, floral and earthy amongst the chocolate malt overtones. Long in the swallow a mere continuation of the flavours of the palate. It has a subtle complexity to it that if you turn the brain off allows you to just quaff it all afternoon. Unsure whether Nail have changed the recipe or just refined this one but it is still a delicious stout. Well made! ( 33cL, 2012, Freo Doctor, Fremantle)

Flavor is light sweet, light bitter, roast malt, caramel, coffee, dark chocolate. Deep opaque black body, holds a creamy dark tan head.
Doesn’t give away much on the nose straight up - roasty, burnt toast sort of notes, black coffee.
Surprisingly medium bodied, drying roastiness, some smoothness/slickness from the oats but not much.
Palate reveals notes of chocolate, black coffee, licorice, browned cereals/oats/bread crust sort of thing happening. Dry finish, lingering roasty note, moderate-high bitterness.

Pint at Archive in Brisbane. Pours black with medium tan head. Very mild aroma. Taste is toasted malt with hints of chocolate and perhaps coffee. Well done basic sweet stout.

Draught at Hoo Ha bar, Southbank, Brisbane. Poured an opaque black with a ruby edge tint, 5mm of light tan foamy head that diminished slowly and laced OK. Carbonation low. Aroma subtly of light and slightly sweet malt. Taste very nice of sweet malt with strong roasted grain, hint of coffee, chocolate and possible smoke. Medium body, a bit thin for a stout. Smooth and creamy with a fading subtle bitterness on the finish. Very nice.

Head doesnt hang around. Upfront sweetness quickly controlled by well balanced bitterness and burnt coffee finish that lingers. Great oatmeal stout, one of the best i have had
