Deep, clouded mahogany wood colored with lightly tanned, thick-ringed head. Rather mild malty aroma. Even after it airs and warms it is hard to tease much off the glass. Mix of candi malts, some treacle, sugar-alcohol on the finish. Some caramel toastiness througougt. Uneventful overall. This likely needs more time to age. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - JAN 12, 2010
Draft at Naked City. Pours a jet black with a loose spray of bubbles cross the top. Very much a cola nose--a little sweet, a little dark, but planted well within the realm of old ales that get that cola spritz in the aromatics. Creamy thickish body. Nuts and toast and cola on the mid-palate. Not much carb. Mild sweet, somewhat savory/toasty finish. Nice stuff. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - DEC 30, 2009
Nose is of some dark fruit - plums, raisins, dark bitter chocolate, roast, a little molasses, and earthy bitter hop notes and light alcohol. Sweet and earthy at the same time. Dark brown kind of cola, no head or lace. Dark fruit, roast, earth, and some hop bitterness in the finish. Sweet and earthy in the finish with a good dry mouthfeel. Medium carbonation, and sneaky for 10.5. bvc (1242) - Washington, USA - DEC 30, 2009
Draft at Naked City. Pours a super dark espresso brow, basically black, with faint signs of carbonation around the edges of my glass. Sweet dark dried fruit, dark berrywheat bread malt, prune juice, cola, touches of coffee, caramel, black cherry, with hints of the abv showing but not too strong. Medium to medium heavy on the mouthfeel with a nice sticky feel and perfect light creamy carbonation. Nice light sweet dried fruit up front a well as sweetness from the malt and some super dark caramel with a slight toasted flavor. Earthy in the mid palate with some nice mellow tobacco as well and finishes up a touch of hop bitterness. I really enjoyed this one and the 10.5% is quite smooth.
