Draft at the brewpub in Seattle.
Pours a hazy dark golden orange color with tangerine hues and a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of lace left behind.
Roasted coffee aroma that overpowers the hops almost completely. More malty than anything with roasted coffee bean, caramel and toffee. Doesn’t smell like an ipa but still interesting.
Medium bodied with a blast of bone dry, bitter resinous hops that linger throughout into a very dry finish. Countered mid-palate by a roasted coffee and sweet malt presence. Roastiness of coffee adds to bitterness but has a distinct coffee flavor that plays off of the malts nicely. Caramel and toffee provide some much needed sweetness but unfortunately not enough. Way too bitter and even though the coffee adds another dimension, it’s just overly resinous, dry and bitter.

Bronzed body with a curly-fluffy, off-white hop-pocked head. Surprisingly harmonious intermingling of Centennial hops and tannic coffee roast in the bouquet. The body is of tannic coffee roast and floral bitterness. Vegetal quality impinges upon the palate. Notably dry finish. hbmason (1086) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - MAY 18, 2012
On draft at the brewery. Golden color with a light white head. Coffee in the nose and a nice mix of coffee and floral hops in the taste. Nice different beer. bvc (1242) - Washington, USA - FEB 15, 2012
Draft at naked city...actually several over the course of the almost week it was on. Loved hearing about the selection of base ipa and coffee that went into making this beer with the brewer over my first pint. Pours clear slightly darker golden with a small slightly off white head and minimal lacing. Definitely coffee forward on the nose...light on the roast, sweeter and more on the citric fruit side...some hops in there but they are intertwined with the fruit notes from the coffee, also getting some cereal graininess in there. Really an interesting nose with most of my coffee beer experience being in the stout/porter realm. Sweeter acidic citrus fruit forward coffee up front, meets in the middle with complementary cereal malt and c hops fruitiness. Bittering come in, in the end and is a mix of both coffee and hops and last long past the finish. If you want a hop showcase in anyway, this isn’t it. But if you like coffee and want something unique this is it. Really enjoyed this beer and hope they brew this again Smurf2055 (1400) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 6, 2012
Naked City, this is the first time they brewed it. Never had anything close to this before. Labeled "special ale", and described as a "coffee IPA".
Pours a clean, clear golden yellow/
Smell is full of coffee grounds.
Taste is porter-like. Very prominent coffee flavors, but a lighter body than I’m used to.
Palate is crisp. It’s got a bigger hop presence than most dark beers, but less than that of a regular IPA.
Very interesting beer.

Fresh light coffee in the nose with nice citrus hops and a touch of pale malt sweetness. Pours golden, thin head, light haze. Flavors start with light coffee, nice light roast and citrus notes followed by solid centenial and cmarillo hop notes citrus and floral. Juicy light sweetness and coffee round out the finish. Hops and coffee mix very well in this one. Super drinkable wonderful beer.
