(Draught) cloudy medium copper, creamy offwhite head. Nose of raisin, molasses, coffee with cream, dates. Taste of raisin, light coffee, date, light barrel, grapefruit citrus, saccharin, a weird mix of flavors. ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - JAN 5, 2013
Just tapped yesterday (4 Jan 2013), this barley wine is definitely English in style, with a medium-brown, cloudy brown colored body and an off white head. Its aroma is light, with just a touch of alcohol and muddy grain. The flavor is mellow, but well-dosed with alcohol and maybe a dash of that cardamom. It tastes like an already aged barley wine, with a super mellow malt profile. Honestly, I don’t taste any coffee or molasses. It’s a pretty classy beer, easy and light-bodied. The finish is a little dark and syrupy. It definitely sticks to the English style of a barley wine, with malts up front and what hops are detectable are very earthy and light. Nice.
