COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Taras Boulba is the perfect session beer — loaded with complex yeast flavors, hopped to perfection, and as drinkable as any beer you’ve ever tried. At 4.5% alcohol, it’s built for drinkability — we suggest buying it by the case.

You’re no doubt wondering where the name comes from and what the hell the foreign text says. It’s all been explained to us by the brewers, but we’re still not entirely clear about it. What we can understand is that a young Flemish man has gone and married a French-speaking Wallonian girl, and his father, Taras Boulba, is very angry. (Smeirlap means ‘fool’ in a bizarre local dialect, which combines Flemish and French, somehow.)

This is all a bastardization of the original story by Gogol, whose protagonist was Ukrainian (Zaporozhian Cossack, specifically), and a Protestant. His son marries a Polish girl, a Catholic, during the religious war between the two countries in the 1600s, and the Ukrainian father simply kills his son to eliminate the shame.

Packaging: 330ml bottles; 6/750ml cork-finished champagne bottles, 30L kegs

3fourths (9406) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 11, 2014
UPDATED: SEP 5, 2014 Undated bottle, undoubtedly fresh given the sharp lemon balm / lemon oil / pith character and the aromatic floral qualities of noble hops and biscuity warm baked bread Pilsner malt, delivered on a dry, snappy, pillowy / airy body. The fine natural carbonation gives it a luscious and filling presence, and the pithy bitterness is vibrant and striking in the mouth. This is world-beater Taras Boulba once again, hard to put into words meaningful enough to convey my satisfaction. A beauty of a hoppy, dry Belgian golden with endless appeal. I went through three bottles of the same batch at Mikkeller Bar in San Francisco, the first two were unreal (4.6 and 4.7) while the third was strangely dull (4.2 level). So it does vary as most bottle-conditioned beers do.

Belgian Ale ?

From 330ml bottle. Pours light gold with a nice head. Not much aroma, what there is, is slightly yeasty. Taste surprised me, citrus, spicy, hoppiness but well balanced and very drinkable. De La Senne have made a decent session beer here. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

En meget humlet sag. Dejlig frisk i humlen der "bider" i eftersmagen. Er noget frugtagtig/tørret frugt i smagen inden humlen slår igennem.

Definitely bitter, but not as strongly so compared to other IPAs/extra hoppy ales. Not being an IPA fan. I didn’t really like it, but “professionally” speaking, it is a pretty good IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
