Poured into a Napa Smith pint glass at the Napa Smith Brewery. From notes, July 29, 2012.
A: Matly nose with caramelized sugar and bread dough. Not as complex as I’d like, but....
A: Poured a full, amber brown color, mostly transparent except for the darkest parts of the glass, with a small off-white white cap.
T: A solid scottish flavor: lots of nice caramelized malt character with some smoky/toasty complexity, dark fruit and brushes of chocolate, malt forward but not overly sweet, and a light bitter at the finish.
P: A nice medium to firm body with adequate amount of soft carbonation.
O: BY FAR my favorite offering from Napa Smith. Not a bad scottish ale, true to the style. Nicely done smooth finish but nothing over the top. bhensonb (15753) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 28, 2012
Tap at the brewpub. Pours clear copper with a creamy white head. Light floral aroma with a hint of peat? Med body. Flavor is lightly floral, a little bready, and there seems to be a very light touch of peat. Otherwise it’s a bit roasted malt. Finishes a bit on the sweet side. Light fruit in the finish. Had this on tap by the Napa Smith Brewery, followed by a private tour of the brewery. Excellent scottish ale. Would love to have it again! Keep on brewing it Napa Smith!
