3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 ounce bottle purchased at the Co-Op in Davis. Aroma is crisp, grassy, with some biscuit notes. A little herbal with a touch of lemon. Nice aroma. Transparent golden body with a small white head. Decent lacing. Starts a little astringent, before it becomes grainy, biscuity, and pretty grassy. Sweet, and smooth maltiness in the middle, with a pretty crisp, lightly herbal bitter hop finish. Pretty good for the style.
Not a great Pale Ale, but a great pizza Pale Ale, in that its middle-of-the-road malt/hop character doesn’t distract you from a delicious piece o’ pie. Okay nose, piney with a subtle malt sweetness, and the pour’s nice enough. Taste is decent as well, pinecone hops with a tiny bit of citric bite against a semisweet caramel-toast maltiness. Finishes with a noticeable Euro-hop pungency, yet never grows overly bitter, mostly staying within its pine comfort zone. Probably would have been harsher in the rating if I’d been tasting this solo, but, hey, gotta have something to drink with that Philly cheesesteak slice.
