Sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2010. Pours a pitch black beer with a firm chocolate head. The aroma is licorice, roasted, sweetness and coffee. The flavor is licorice, roasted, vanilla, wood, sweetness and coffee. The palate is roasted with sweetness and very smooth. Overall a beer very close to perfect. Nice balance, good complexity and a very very nice experience. tdtm82 (1701) - Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 28, 2010
Tap, Borefts, thanks to team Narke. Massive oaky aroma, sour edge, wild beerries, coffee, cream, very good heart-warming alcohol, roasted malts, wood chips and burnt toast, little too aggressive but amazing. kermis (13883) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - FEB 26, 2011

An exceptional example of a porter. The pour was jet black, which then birthed an low but thick espresso head. This slowly receded into lacing. Strong notes of cocoa, coffee, some vanilla are upfront in the nose. Got some dark chocolate, milder coffee and dark fruits (predominantly candied prunes) invade the palate. Some of the wood tannins are mildly apparent in the back. What a treat! Thanks to JW!!

Ben equilibrata e complessa. Barrelbelly (750) - BELGIUM - SEP 26, 2010

11.2oz bottle into a small tasting glass at the Närke brewery with owner-head brewer, Hans.
This is a special Kaggen. They took the 08 version and put on pure Swedish Oak barrels that never contained any alcohol for three months. The barrels were made by a top cooper in the area. It was then released only at the First Borefts Beer festival at De Molen. The brewer let most beers go at the festival but kept a few for himself. As a side not he has two more barrels aging for a special 5 year anniversary beer, another super small batch. I was told a year ago this was too harsh and woody as the oak showed off way to much. When I tasted it, thought it was really good. The oak really presents itself on the aroma, but its really smooth and yummy. The taste is really smooth, the oak is present but doesn’t dominate, this is a great beer. Not as great or complex as the whiskey version as it lacks any of the sweet vanilla, but this is still awesome.
If you’re lucky enough to be one of the handful of people who sees this beer, you should try it. darkguardian (733) - Florida, USA - SEP 22, 2011
Pours a deep black with a small tan head. Nose is wood, rich chocolate and roasted malt. More pure and sweeter up front than normal kaggen. Has a smooth woody bitterness on the backend. Wood is there throughout and gives this beer a very clean overall balance. I liked this quite a bit more than regular Kaggen. Huge thanks to the supplier of this bottle, you know who you are.
