Pours hazy deep dark brown with a creamy and frothy beige head that slowly dissipates while leaving a thick lacing on the glass. Smell is subtle, slightly sweet and malty with bread, smoke, peat, wood, caramel, biscuits, cereal, lemon zest and hints of pine needles. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, tiny sour and malty with sweet dark bread, caramel, lemon juice, plums, wood, biscuits, pine needles, cookie dough, peat, smoke and hints of pine needles and juniper berries. Mouthfeel is smooth, round, tiny tart and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, slightly bitter and tiny sour with sweet dark bread, peat, wood, smoke, lemon juice and cereal. Nice and balanced.

Sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2012. Pours a clear and dark copper beer with a weak white head. The aroma is malt, weak smoke and weak peat. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is smoke. Overall a beer below average, and out of balance.

erickok (6037) - Leuven, BELGIUM - NOV 16, 2012
Somewhat clean copper body with creamy beige head. Dry hops, dough, twigs, carton (but not in a bad way) and a nice rich yet not punchy smokey base. Light smokey taste as well. It’s just not my kind of thing. (75cl bottle at Deanso’s tasting)

jmgreenuk (9305) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - NOV 16, 2012
Bottle at a Den Haag RB tasting. Poured reddish brown with a big frothy off white head. A rich smoky aroma but not overpowering. The flavour is smoky woody malty with coffee and spicy liqourice on the palate. A truly hand crafted ale.

Bottle. Dark cola with a tanned head. Very nice balanced smoke aroma alongside with woody notes and a nice malty backbone. Flavor is bittersweet with a lot of smoke present. The balance in this beer is amazing. Medium bodied and carbo. Great!
