Roll out the Barrel: 5.0% Alcohol by Volume and 12 IBUs. A classic American lager and the workhorse of the Gansett stable. Available all year long in bottle, can and on tap! Quality Supreme: We brew our lager with six row malt, seedless hops, corn from Iowa, our lager strain (the same one the brewery has depended on since just after Prohibition), and the purest water from Lakes Ontario and Hemlock. Taste & Enjoy: This beer is brewed just right for drinkingcrisp and refreshing. Its got more flavor than other premium lagers, yet its one of the most drinkable beers in the world. Narragansett has the highest rating of all domestic premium lagers on BeerAdvocate.com, and received the bronze medal for American Lagers at the 2008 World Beer Cup The History: The Lager is old reliable. It was the first beer brewed by The Original Six back in 1890, the bestselling beer in New England from the 1930s to the 1970s, and the official beer of the Boston Red Sox from 1944-1975.

Note:
Contract brewed by High Falls Brewing Co. for since 2007, the production moving to City Brewing in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2009 and then to the City Brewing plant in Latrobe, PA in 2010. It is anticipated that production may be returned to Rhode Island in the future.

Typical old school North American Lager. Smells like...old bar beer -- theres a surprise. Yellow/gold, big white foamy head. Not bad. Would appeal to the old 1950s PBR, Carling, etc. drinkers. Suits Capt. Quint in "Jaws".

A light beer, not too complex. Mild body, low hops, sweet. Pale malts, some caramel, yeast.

Just like I enjoy; malty, sweet & no bitterness at all. Pours clean & clear with crisp flavor. I bring this back home to Ohio every time I visit New England. Love the retro cans as well, as featured in the movie Jaws by actor Robert Shaw.

I saw that this was a Rhode Island beer and I needed to check one off. Then, I heard it was like the PBR of New England. Well, it is a little better than that.

Tap at Gambrinus. Pours a clear gold. Faint honey nose with some grain. Clean and crisp lager. Touch of peppery bite on the finish. Not awful by any means.

February 2017 - 16 fl oz can at home in Richmond as Narragansett Lager - "Made on Honor, Sold on Merit" - Since 1890. No date or ABV details. Pours clear golden, highly sparkling with a big dense foamy white head, leaving thick lacing. Looks the part. Aroma is a bit like tarnished metal, lager malt, also melon-bubblegum. Body is a bit frothy with tingly carbonation. Taste is pretty clean and sweet, sugary malts, slight bubblegum esters, very soft bitterness - more papery than bitter in the finish. Reminds me of DAB Export. Not really for me. Always interesting to try these classic old lagers though - this one appeared in the film Jaws.

First, the harshness: What is the opposite of "garbage water" stouts? Peepee water Narragansett. Extremely refreshing but mostly for drinking in dire situations where dehydration and/or death are imminent, or when the Red Sox are present (same thing). Second, the balanced viewpoint: very cheap, reliable, and drinkable... a fine example of the most ignoble of brews, the pale lager.

Can poured in glass. Doyles choice for Lorettas 50th party. Aroma of corn, can and some malt. Pours a clear golden complexion with dissipating thick white head. The flavor is macro-malt with some hops and corny flavor with mildly sweet aftertaste. Good choice for a dive bar or New England roadhouse. Some points for brewer history.

Bottle from Total Wine, Miami Beach. Pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma of corn, syrup and potato. Fairly sweet, minimal bitterness. Light body, oily texture, average carbonation. First Rhode Island state tick, but not a particularly good beer.
