From tap. Poured a nice deep yellow/amber color. Head was small with aroma being earthy hops and sweet malt. Taste followed with a slight paper taste in the end after the bitter bite. Oxidized? Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 19, 2010
Tap at Natty. Pours a clear bright golden with a thin head. Aroma is butterscotch and lots of fruity esters, toffee malts, sweet caramel, and some grass. Flavor is more butter and off very sweet fruity esters, toffee biscuit, slick syrupy candy sugar. Eh. bubbleflubber (2227) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - JUN 20, 2009
Pours slightly hazed and amber into the glass. A thin suds ring follows down the glass. A nice metallic malty nose follows. The flavors are nice, with some sweet malt contrasting with a nice English bitter, really developing the metallic note mid-palate and closing with lingering dry hop notes to finish the pull. Complex, yet integrated well, it goes down with a full, substantive mouthfeel... perfect carbo levels to provide the right amount of zest. I’m hanging on to my like of this one, as it gets better the longer it sits. Good job. jrob21 (3688) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JUN 29, 2008
On tap at the brewpub. Clear copper color. Was a little disappointed in the hop profile here. A bit of a sweet caramel malt flavor with a finish that is faintly bitter. Drake (13737) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 27, 2008
Tap at brewpub. Gold color and sweet malty aroma. Malty taste (molasses) balanced with a fabulous bitterness. Well carbonated, very well balanced. Supremely drinkable.

Poured a clear dark golden color with an off-white head. Light floral hop aroma with some caramel malt. The flavor was malty with a good stiff long moderately bitter finish. The finish was dry with a medium body. jcwattsrugger (12420) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - NOV 1, 2007
on tap-pours an off white head and gold color. Aroma is mild medium malt-some sweet. Taste is medium malt-some sweet, peat, nutty, roasty, secondary/faint hops. Mild carbonation. OldGrowth (3474) - the Containment Area, North Carolina, USA - OCT 26, 2007
Pint @ brewpub, Good aroma. Sweet, bitter. Citurs hops, little caramel and or honey. Fruit, Apple, cherry. Clean brownish orange color, good head that faded quickly, minor lacing. Bittersweet flavor, like aroma little more grapefruit about it and a plastic streak about it. Medium body, lite creamy mouthfeel, bitterdry finish. Very nice Esb. Aroma had a nice change about it as it warmed. First sweet then the citrusy bitterness toward the end. kp (10882) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - SEP 1, 2007

cloudy orange, fine cream colored head, can’t get much aroma, could be the fish cooking in the adjacent kitchen, creamy body, lots of great subdued hop flavor that leads to a long easy bitter finish, just enough fruity sweetness to keep it balanced and add interest, the fruity character continues to grow, the perfect ESB

Great beer. Stylistically spot-on and tasty as well. Great head retention. Highly recommended.
