Bottle shared by a friend. Clear amber pour with a medium off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, tamarind, sour pear and citrus. Malt and caramel flavor with peach and pear accents before a sour finish. jbruner (4694) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - JUN 7, 2017
Pours a deep reddish brown from the bottle with bubbly khaki head that dissipates quickly to leave light lace. Aroma of big lactic acidity, mild vanilla barrel notes, and a hint of funk. Taste has dark fruit on the front, big lactic acidity in the middle, then ends with a hint of vanilla sweetness and mild fruity funk. A bit heavy on the sour, but I guess that is typically American, and that’s the name. onceblind (9419) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 11, 2016
2014 version, so, aged 1.5-2 years. Clear deep Amber with a very thin off white cap. Big red sour aroma with some red wine and red fruits, with a stern earthy sour funk, and some sort of chestnut-barrel tone. Big bold flavor that’s just slightly tart on the finish, then there’s this wild red fruit and Amber malts, some Belgian Amber nuances, and gently dusty and tart. Very complex and layered, smooth, gently acidic, fruity, and delightful. jrob21 (3663) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - FEB 29, 2016
2015. Pretty solid. Complex and tart. Cherry oak and good sourness. Medium on the sour. Almost like a Flemish red. Pleasantly surprised. Huhzubendah (3705) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 16, 2016
Clear mahogany body with a soapy beige cap. Aromas of oak, cherry, vanilla, funk. The flavor is a notch below the aroma. Light body. Mild sweetness. Brown bread and cherry character. Mild tartness with moderate funk character.

Bottle. Poured a mahogany color with an off white head. Earthy, funky, wood, caramel, and a bit acetic. MartinT (9851) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 10, 2014
My Bottom Line:Travlr (24307) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - NOV 16, 2014
Sour cherries, barnyard and red vinegar coincide in this dry and tart creation.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the cloudy red.
-Carbonation feels natural, which helps the flavor profile greatly.
-The acetic finish may be a tad too much for some, but I like it.
-The mouthfeel is soft, which helps drinkability greatly.
Draft at Release the Funk, 2014 version. Deep reddish maroon color, beige head. Aroma of overripe cherries, vanilla, light tannin. Taste is sweet and sour brandied cherries and vanilla. Very tasty. Damico (3147) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 26, 2014
Pours amber mostly unclear with a beige head head. Aroma brings a sweet tart characteristic of American sours with a bit of wheat as well. Flavors bring sweeter tart than usual, maybe it has died a bit after a few years in the cellar.
