2013 release - new world saison
Natural selection is set up to give four young, up and coming brewers studying at the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh the chance to design, market and launch an inventive beer to the public.
This year they have come up with a New World saison called origin 5.5%. This crisp, dry and fruity beer has a pronounced hop characteristic from the galaxy hops. This Belgian style beer is brewed with rye using saison yeast to give a unique taste.

500ml bottle, from trade with Ash! Many thanks. BBD 31/12/14 so perhaps not an accurate reflection of the beer. Pours hazy gold, huge unrelenting head. Aroma is herbal. Taste is herbal, leafy, floral with dandelions, pine and sweet malts with faint saison yeast peering from underneath. Doesnt particularly join up well but its different.

Half the bottle has been lost to gushing upon opening!! Massive off white head even after letting it froth out. Pours a murky orange/ brown. Aroma is oranges, spices, yeast funk, slightly astringent note, taste is higher Belgium yeast profile, very dry, lasting bitter finish. Bang on the money for a new age saison

Bottle from Cornelius. Bit of a gusher. But off white head collapses to decent lacy. Golden, slightly hazy. Belgian on the nose, yeast and some citrus. Lively carbonation. Lightish body. Saison with malts, some fruit but not overpowering. Very refreshing.
