Fruity in flavor, blond in color. Perfect marriage between a blond Belgian beer of top-fermentation and an old artisanally distilled genever.

As St Amand. Dark golden with lots of floaters and a good sized off white head. Sweet malts and light bread, some spices, spruce, juniper and light pepper. There’s a bit of mixed fruit juice in the aroma but no fruity taste. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with good amount of mouthcoating carbonation. Decent blond.

33cl bottle at home (1 I 2017), drank as Ne Kopstoot. A golden, brown, hazy, dirt looking brew, typically Belgian styled dark honey coloured with a white swift diminishing foam; a really fizzy collar. The nose has light hoppy notes, hinting at herbs. There are some malts in there as well, with a secondary sweet-alcoholic undertone. The taste has at first a very pleasant hoppyness, making this a herbs bitter brew. Making this not the usual plain Belgian malt ale. The genever-beer combination maybe is not portrayed that natural, it can even sip as unbalanced, yet the spiced alcohol backbone is spot on. Some artificial flavours do not ruin the beer’s elegance, although the style is rather aplomb. One can notice some pear, pepper or juniper berries in the aroma as well, maybe some "glue-features" too. All this, without being disturbing, harsh or violent. The mouthfeel has some keen sweetish notes, above the dirt-dust character. Quite a lovely, lingering herbs and spirit brew, enjoyable to savor.

Tried as Abbaye de St. Amand. Hazy, golden color. Highly carbonated. Primarily yeasty aroma. Sweet caramel, fruitiness, cherries deep in the nose, sharp phenolic spiciness. Rich mouthfeel. Quite sweet and malty, caramel, not much acidity, Yeast bitterness from phenols, like cocoa bean. Not too hoppy, but enough to give some balance. Finishes sweet with a touch of resiny hops and juniper. Obvious alcohol in feel, but not taste. Quite good blonde. The subtle juniper is a nice touch.

tricksta_p (4635) - Steenwijk, NETHERLANDS - JUL 31, 2015
Aroma of malt, yeast, fruits, some spicy notes, coriander, hint of vegetables, slight hint of jenever. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a light bitter finish. Not a bad Belgian Ale, jenever is very subtle.

chromeotaphor (170) - NETHERLANDS - JUN 18, 2015

jamaty (2141) - Madrid, SPAIN - JUN 10, 2015
