Bottled. Deep rubyish copper colour, close to black with a mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is smoked wet wood, some slight liquorice, mild herbal and grassy notes. Flavour is chocolate, some smoked wet wood, a bit earthy and herbal notes along with some ashy notes. Nice malty body to it as well, giving it a pleasant filling palate. (bottle conditioned). Dark malts jumped out at me in 3D in the nose...tart cherries ,i reckon too. beige head was fast to die above a glass of blackness -with pieces of sediment swimming around. These flavours show rich black malts , with chocolaty roast .hop resiny bitterness ..some ashy chalk ..oil . And a cutting subtle sour edge. This stout is pretty flavourful and compact. harrisoni (19425) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - DEC 31, 2010
