COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wick for Brains is our classic and painstakingly produced Fall Pumpkin Ale. Instead of simply using spice, we use real pumpkin which lends a sweetness and pumpkin flavor not found in many Pumpkin Ales. Wonderful pumpkin pie spice intertwined in an Amber Ale creates a pumpkin sensation which is elegantly crafted. Notes of Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove, Ginger and Allspice blend perfectly in this seasonal Ale. There are many Pumpkin Ales out there crafted by some wonderful breweries we feel that ours stands among them and in some cases stands apart.

Pumpkin-amber colored brew topped by an appealing white, frothy 1" thick head. Fresh, natural pumpkin flesh aromas intermingle with wheat tartness and a diffuse mix of muted pumpkin spices in the bouquet. On the palate this one again delivers natural pumpkin flesh flavor, accompanied by light spicing such as traces of allspice and ginger, though there is no sign of the wheat or tartness that was present in the aroma. A nice throwback pumpkin beer to the days when it was all, or mostly, about the pumpkin.

DATE: December 22, 2016... OCCASION: Christmas so close, and the new TV is up and functional in 4K... GLASSWARE: Hobgoblin pint... sallow orange amber body with zesty swirling bubbles... a fizzing white head flatlines to a thin halo... ginger, nutmeg, soft pumpkin and allspice invite a second breathe...mint tea and clove as well... some bread malts suggest the amber aspect... mellow, light-bodied and easily downable... its finish is lively... spicy, with plenty of pumpkin to spare as promised... the profile is nutmeg, allspice and pumpkin--as indicated, an organic, natural pumpkin ale that wins in its accessibility... not a beer that demands its own night, but one that at 6% ABV could accompany adults on a Halloween night...

From a 12 oz can with an August 2016 canning date and attractive art. Appearance: Pours sightly hazy, and golden with a decent head that has very good retention. Aroma: Pumpkin, light spices including cinnamon and nutmeg. Approaches 8. Taste: Conservatively spiced with baked pumpkin and biscuits. Feel: Medium-light body and near medium carbonation. Overall: OK.

I kind of approach Pumpkin beers with caution these days. I get that brewers - good brewers, anyway - are trying not to make the undrinkable spice bomb that kind of defined the style just a few short years ago. but man is easy find a bad beer, still. This, thankfully was pretty good. There was some familiar spice in the aroma - nutmeg, allspice, etc, but also some citrus and roasty malts. Taste was lightly sweet, and spicy but not over the top. Some grassy hops and woody notes in the finish.

Pours a golden orange color with an off-white head that fizzes our quickly. Aroma of spice and pumpkin. Slightly sour flavor with cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin sweetness. Pretty nice.

Can. Cinnamon, nutmeg, sour milk, pumpkin, caramel malt, and hay aroma. Hazy golden yellow with small head. Moderately sweet orange, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin malt, moderately sour milk, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Okay body.

Poured from can. Attractive radiant orange with virtually no head. Light body. A bit sour. I dont know if its on purpose or not but it isnt off putting. Spices arent overdone. The pumpkin is nice.

First sip...like a tarty pumpkin ale. Good spices. So.ethong about it reminds me a little more of a coder than many other pumpkin beers Ive had. Probably the tartness. Good pumpkin aftertaste.

Can: Cloudy, amber-orange with a thin white head. Scent is natural pumpkin innards.....almost like cutting a real one open. Taste is straightforward raw pumpkin..a smidge of caramel malt, pumpkin-style spices. A little peppery and dry. Props for being carefully done.....very natural and not saturated with spices..... how a pumpkin beer should be.

#1 on the night, underrated IMHO. Can. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but the real pumpkin is obvious from the first whiff. Slightly vegetal with a sweet carmelized malty backbone. Spices are there, and done well. Easy drinking abd better than expected.
